Good afternoon all,

I had the opportunity to pick up the Spring Run of Ghost ship (without the food colouring in the AS). Before I get into it, I need to be clear I was NOT a fan of BW and thought it was "Over Hyped." I purchased the tobacco scented soap, I believe the Captains Pipe and while it performed well, the scent was so mild, at the end of the shave I forgot what I shaved with (it was that underwhelming). After two shaves I moved it along and that was that. So I'm browsing the new soaps at Shave Revolution (Evolution!) and I see Ghost ship. So I quickly jump to the calendar and confirm it wasn't October and I had not lost several months of my life in some time warp, popped back to the site, read the scent profile and picked it up (Soap and AS). It arrives promptly (as it always does from Shave Revolution/Evolution!), and I decide to give it a go. Nice strong scent out of the jar, citrus is all your going to get out of me. My name is not Chris Bailey (and your not!) that can describe a scent to the last note, you get one from me.

So...soap or cream? Unless you can argue otherwise it's a cream. I stick my brush in, swirl and I get globs after oh 3 seconds. A hard cream, but a cream. Croap, whatever..

How does it shave? Most excellently! Glide, cushion, slickness, scent, all excellent. Any drawbacks? None that I can see right now. Do I like, yes I like! Will I buy more from BW? Yes but not right away, I got lots on the go. Would I recommend Ghost Ship? Absolutely, but make your own decisions, soap are too subjective. Moral of the story, try more than one scent from a soap maker before giving up on them.

Thanks for looking!

Jervis

I have 2 different generations of BWW soap. I have Shipwreck Cove in the earlier packaging and I have Pirates Bay in the new generation packaging. I do not know if there is a difference in formulation but I can tell you this much...The Shipwwreck Cove scent profile is not as strong as the Pirates Bay scent profile. Both perform exceptionally well, and both are at the top of my preferences, but the newer generation packaging seems to have a stronger scent.

I have no idea if this is psychosomatic or actual, and for me, it doesn't matter. Most of my soaps I can't smell very strongly after application anyhow, considering they are on top of my head, not under my nose, so there's that...

Regardless, the performance for both is fantastic!

FWIW, I sniffed all of their offerings when I was at Maggard's and they all seemed lightly scented to me, both old and new packaging. I think I liked the Shipwreck Cove the best though.

No, I think your right, the scent does fade as I go forward and onward with the shave, generally. There are the exceptions (tabac is such an exception) where you can smell it all the way through and then some, but generally the fade. What I take exception too is the fade at the open jar, further fade with lathering and then nothing. There are plenty of performing "scent less " soaps I can buy if that's what I were after. If I can't at least get a whif of it when I'm done, it's done and on I go. The Ghost ship lasted great through the shave, it has earned its stripes, the AS freshens the scent.

This is a perfect example of YMMV. I personally think Captain Pipe is one of the STRONGEST soap scents I have ever owned. I have about 16 different makers in the den right now and believe this one Tin to Face to Rinse and hours after is definitely noticeable. Weak scented would be the last adjective I would use for this soap.

You're right steeleshaves, now that I remember Captain's Pipe did have a strong scent. The rest were very weak though, to the point of almost no scent. Doesn't say much for consistency.
