Shaven in the Past
(This post was last modified: 07-15-2018, 02:57 PM by preidy.)
I've never used one so I can't comment on shave quality. However I've used about 60+ vintage and other's and don't believe that the shave quality of this razor (or others) can be that much better to justify the high cost. But. The workmanship, quality, and cult following is second to none so I believe that these razors will continue bring a premium price for my lifetime and longer.

For that price I'd have to ship it thru Brinks. I'd be a nervious wreck sending (waiting) via USPS.

James doesn't seem to respond to requests to purchase, no matter your history with him. At least that's my experience.

However, once an order has been placed, I've found him to be more than accommodating. Quick responses. Courteous.

That said, no....he's not Brian at CG or Shane at Blackland or even Andy at Paradigm. I've also found those 3 guys to be excellent.

I like efficient razors. The 86 WR1 shaves closer than anything coming out of the other shops. It is just as efficient as a Lvl 3 and a smoother shaver to boot.

I think guys are spooked by his gaps for some reason. I was too with my first order. I started with a 74 then progressed to 80, 86, and have a 94 on the way. The 86 is better than anything I own and I'm hoping the 94 will kick it up a notch.

He accepted a better offer actually, who knows the exact amount.

It sold for $1,200. It also came with some authenticity paperwork from LASSC.
Crazy times but I guess the BBS-1 can still only go up in price from here.

I bought one of the first ones released and sold it for a minor loss, a few years back. Go figure. Wink

I was one of those people a bit spooked by his higher blade gaps at first. Then I tried a 0.74OC and absolutely loved it and ended up getting my hands on a 0.80SB. I still use both regularly and enjoy them a lot. They manage to stay very smooth and forgiving while cutting very efficiently. I can't wait to get my hands on either a .86 or .94.

LOOT, I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the .94 gap.
I noticed that option isn’t available on the site. Did you just ask him for a .94 after placing your order?
