Kiritimati is a fine scent. Wonderful at Xmas. Frankincense is underappreciated, but often the star of the show, IMO.

BTW, is it just me, or does Blue Samhain smell like the Bit-O-Honey candies?

I've never smelled those candies - never even seen them.  Must be an American thing.  Blue Samhain has a strong burnt sugar / butterscotch note which wouldn't be a bad thing in a candy.

Kiritimati is one of my favourite scents of all scents not just bay rum / bay inspired scents. I use it year round and also have it in bath and shampoo soap.

Well, I got my hands on a St John's sample (which the company has on its website) and I do like it.  It is definitely close the DR Harris -- perhaps a touch more clove-like and just a bit more aggressive, unlike the DRH which is almost  refined, or as you said, sophisticated.  However, the St John's unlike the DRH, lasts.  The DRH scent disappears almost immediately.  Today used it AND the DR Harris and was quite content.  Still experimenting though: have some PAA samples on their way

I've found that most bay rums do not have staying power.

3rd time wearing MacDuffs PRR this week...

Well, between the St John's and the DR Harris, the St John's has a lot more staying power.  Not as much as other scents, but at least some.  The DRH had none (for me).

So that MacDuffs.....  Obviously you're liking it.  A question about it before I pull a trigger:  the description makes it sound as if it might be sweet smelling.  Is it?  Is it "perfumey"? or floral?  One of the reasons I think I like the bay rums I've now liked is that they aren't particularly floral or sweet (or smell like a perfumed cologne) -- for instance, I found the BM bay rum to have too much sweet rum and vanilla and orange (and perhaps pepper) and not enough bay notes, eucalyptus, clove.  So curious as to perhaps a fuller description......thx

B&M bay rum is one of my favorites, but I also like deep and rich bay rums too that are spicy...

PAA Clasico is a straight forward bay rum that I like a lot. I was not a fan of their atomic age bay rum at all though, sadly.

Krampert's Finest bay rum smells awesome but has hardly any staying power. The face feel on that splash is great though. Sadly Brian stopped making it...

This bay rum from etsy smells absolutely amazing, probably my favorite, honestly: https://www.etsy.com/listing/499309330/b...cs_3&frs=1

The MacDuffs PRR is a well blended scent, in my opinion. as you know, it's not a classic bay rum, but the added notes to separate it from the classic aren't off putting. When I open the soap lid, for example, I can smell the citrus, bay and some woody notes. I constantly pop the lid off to give it a sniff, it's quite intoxicating to me. I've never used any MacDuffs soaps before and plan on shaving tonight so it'll be on deck for the shave! Give it a try, I think you might like it.

Shoot TheShaveSupply a message and see if he has any samples of it.

Space Nog is a legit bay rum. Strong too, the way bay rum should be.  This one should be in every bay rum lovers lineup.

I haven't sniffed space nog yet - I might need to check that one out.

I just ordered a bottle of Thor’s Hammer. How could I not?

I saw at etsey among other bay rums one called Georgian Bay. I picked it up a while ago. Disappointing. Almost scentless.

Thanks so much for the response!  B&M I did try via a sample and it wasn't to my taste at all, actually.  I might try a sample of PAA Clasico but, so far, the PAA's haven't thrilled me, as I said. I did order the Thor's!  Couldn't resist tat name.  And I've written Gareth at ShaveSupply and hope he can do a sample!  thanks again

I think you'll quite enjoy Thor's Hammer bay rum. In fact, I sent a bunch to Dragonsbeard a few months ago blindly (unlabeled dram bottles with numbers written on the bottom) and Thor's Hammer was 1 of the top scents he picked out..

if you want a straight classic bay rum scent, I think Clasico will suit you well. Gareth is a good dude, hopefully he can help you out!

Interesting doing the blind approach.  I guess I've never asked myself whether knowing who made a scent might influence my view of it.  I suppose it could even though, to date, I think with every producer I've found likes as well as dislikes.
