HoosierShave, it's easy to make good bath soap and there are plenty of recipes on the Internet.  Shaving soap is a different story.

I use the hot process, meaning that I use a crock pot.  Making soap is much like following a fairly simple recipe to cook something.  There is one safety issue, which is that you have to work with lye.  In rough terms, lye is the exact opposite of the most powerful acid.  I don't have worry about it, though following basic safety precautions is important.

No small children in your work area, save the whiskey until after you make the soap, wear eye protection, etc...

The great thing is that you can play with the scent to get exactly what you want.  Also, you choose the ingredients.  Below is a pic of a couple of bars of my most recent batch along with the recipe.

Those look great and I love the spreadsheet recipe!

HoosierShave, let me know if you decide to give this a try and I can share more info.

The spreadsheet comes from an online lye calculator. You have to make sure there is enough fat to saponify all of the lye or someone is in for shower that will definitely wake them up. haha

The "double" patchouli caught my interest. I've ordered this. I hope it's good.

I have been a little bit disappointed that this soap did not have as much fragrance as I expected. Otherwise it's a good soap.

I started in on this bar of soap 2-3 days ago. I did not know that haslinger made anything other than shaving soaps...this bar has the same mild scent that the shaving soap has.

Started a new bar of Stirling Tobacco Leaf - scent is really great, reminds me more of a pipe tobacco than anything else. Pairs up well with Stirling's The Lounge shave soap
