Checkmate.

What?

I mean, I can't believe I'm still reading this thread, but ... what?

Checkmate.

Well, overly dramatic "checkmate" aside, all that indicates is that something likely happened to it in transit, which I believe I told you at the outset. Since Jerry hasn't ever made Lavanille either, I would hardly call him an expert authority on whether I've changed it or not.

So the question becomes, "If it IS different, what happened to it on its way to Russia?" If Maggard did not cause it (which I didn't think they had) and I did not cause it (which I certainly did not), what occurred to alter its composition?

If you really want to send a piece of soap all the way back to the States, then I'll have a look at it, if you like. But I will reiterate that any difference is not of my doing, and obviously not of Maggard's either.

Dazed and Confused
Ireland
As a homebrewer I can say THE most challenging part of brewing beer is consistency.  Once in a while I really nail a delicious brew and get lots of compliments (even a kid or two has been attributed) and I do log everything very carefully.  That said, I often fail to recapture the exact same magic when I make new batches of the same recipe.  Now being on a small island I have to substitute ingredients from time to time.  Even if I didn't different batches of grains and hops change properties from year to year.

Life is analogue, not digital.

I think it's reasonable to assume Will doesn't have some fragrance DNA he can feed into a computer and digitally replicate every batch with 100.000% accuracy.  Aside for the allowance that his ingredients, even if exactly the same, may differ slightly from batch to batch, year to year, the OP is also comparing older samples with new ones.  I'm pretty sure my 3yo beer will be quite different from a fresh batch. Secondly the fact that the formula has changed has to be accounted for. Lastly scent is a funny thing. What is a 1% perceptible change to one person is a 10% change for another.

In summary, why do we always need to cynically assume everything to do with B&M is designed to screw us over? I know we're online and in a forum so that's a funny thing to say, but nonetheless B&M seems to get an extra hard time for being "up to something" that I just don't get.

Will, Why do you delete a review from your site?

I didn't. Reviews 3 stars and below do not auto-publish in order to give me a chance to answer and address them.

That said, full disclosure, I will not publish that review, for two reasons. 1) Half of it is in cyrillic or otherwise unintelligible due to the strange formatting; and 2) I refuse to carry this forward to another forum because you don't like the result you're getting here.

If you want to write a review and mark the product as two stars on the basis that you feel that the scent has changed, that's fine. I will publish it. But I will not have the entire recount of everything that has transpired clogging up my review system, particularly because you have distorted your own responses. This argument will not carry forward any further, and, frankly, I have had enough. Please send me your PayPal address and I will send you the money. I would ask that that now be the end of it, since I am quite certain that we both have better things to do with our time than argue with someone on the other side of the planet about something so ancillary.

Issued.

This is issued to XIII.  Why was this made public if you were not willing to post the entire set of PMs?  All of us, occasionally, have issues with a product, be it scent, efficacy, or something else.  However, if you are not willing to show all of the correspondence then why start this?  To choose just what you think is appropriate does not give the rest of us a chance to make an informed decision.  While all of us would like things to be perfect in our world that is not always the case.  Unless a merchant is deliberately going out of his/her way to deceive then I have to wonder what you are upset about.

Over the years, much to my chagrin, my sense of smell has deteriorated.  This is not all that uncommon.  Does it frustrate me?  Of course.  However, I understand that things change, especially the sense of smell.

If you felt so strongly about this then why didn't you send Barrister_N_Mann that sample?  Will seems to have always been an upfront merchant and I think he would have gotten back to you with his findings.  As it is, he has offered to repay your costs, even though that is not something he has to do.  Perhaps it is time to say that, sadly, this has come to closure and not where it should have.
