I don't really find it heavy but enjoy the face feel you're talking about.
I've been trying their balm after soap and splash and that might end up being too much for summer, for me.
Most of the time I'm doing the three layers so if it gets out of hand I can cut back on the the last 2, splash and Balm.
Everyone's different and our skin also.

What do you think about their older base, say Excelsior or Reserve, how do those seem with you?

I never used Excelsior but really enjoyed the Reserve base (RIP) and the old White Label tubs. I do follow up with a balm so may be it is overkill like you noted. I'll try dropping the balm and report back.

You'll never know about the balm until you try a experiment I think, worth a shot.

I like omnibus but it's way too thick for me. Sometimes feels like Elmer's glue. I think the lather improves slightly with a synthetic knot but it's hard to enjoy with a badger.  It's still a very good soap but not what I prefer  to use.

Keep adding water. Like, lots of water. Then add some more. You can almost turn a fire hydrant loose on Omnibus and not drown it out. Once the lather is dripping onto the vanity top and all over you, you’re there. Like they say over at Reddit, “If your lather ain’t drippin’, you must be trippin’ ”

This is the most thirsty soap I have used in 20 years. Dont be afraid to add the h20 to her. It is my#1 base

From this morning’s shave (B&M Passiflora Omnibus base). The lighting in my bathroom sucks for taking lather shots, however you get the gist…melting ice cream lather. It wasn’t nearly as airy as the photo would suggest. The lather was dripping off my brush, and I was catching it with my left hand, then dumped it on the knot after I got the first application done.

I was trying to count how many water additions during face lathering, and lost count at 15. Somewhere around 20+ I’d wager. I’m not talkin’ those one or two drops at a time additions either…probably around 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoons each time.

Tommy TommyCarioca and I discussed Omnibus in the past. The Elmer’s Glue stage is just the beginning of the party. You have some work ahead of you at this point. Don’t be afraid of breaking Omnibus. She’s no delicate flower. Give it hell.

As for the shave…like an oiled skating rink. I could’ve easily done my complete shave with just one application of lather. The residual slickness was just that good. If you load heavy and jam the water to it, you’ll be rewarded with some stellar stuff.

I've done exactly that. It's very good lather but I think it's unreasonable to have to spend that much time adding water. I know it can take a ton of it. I get better lather with a synthetic knot and picking up less soap so that I don't have to spend an hour adding water to it.
