When I want an American barber shop shave I use Williams Mug Soap or I use Gillette Foamy Barbershop Fresh in the can, which has the citrus/amber scent of those lather machine lathers. Then I follow up with some Clubman talc on the back of my neck and shoulders, and a splash of cheap bay rum like Stephan or Gabels.

Posh British barber shop shave I use a floral scented cream from T&H or Trumpers and follow it with a similar scent. A workingman's British shave involves Palmolive cream and Pashana after shave.

Italian barber shop is Cella followed by Floid amber or blue, or an "evergreen" Proraso shave.

I've actually been getting my hair cut at a Turkish barber lately, but I haven't had a shave yet. He uses a shavette, and its "bring your own brush" if you want real lather. Maybe at Christmas I'll treat myself...

With Wintertime coming on there is no better classic shaving soap than MWF When it come's to protecting your face from the element's. It's good stuff.

I don't have MWF at the moment but the French SdM soaps are also very good for the winter time.

Here are 4 'Barbershop' scents that basically smell the same, at leat to my nose they do, hopefully this information will keep you from making same mistake I made and ending up with all of em,

Maggards London Barbershop
Mickey Lee Soapworks - The Kracken
Wickham 1912 - Cashmere
Mikes Barbershop

I just bought Cashmere during Wickhams Black Friday sale. I had heard so much about what a great sent it was and I was honestly excited when it arrived until I opened the tub, then all I could think was "This one again"?

Thanks, Oasisdave . I'm probably safe, except for Wickham (which I'm not familiar with) those are all tallow-based...

I've got both the aftershave and soap samples. Ol" Kentucky's nice too.
