I'm looking for a good "Barber Shop" style sent.  I recently received some RazorRock XXX.  I purchased it because of the great reviews and that people saying that it was a good barbershop style scent.  Well I opened the canister up and it smelled familiar but I couldn't figure it out and when my wife took a sniff she said; "It smells like "Ivory" soap that my Mother used to buy."   So My question is.... Is that really considered a good barbershop style sent?  And what are your favorite scents along that same line?

It's different to every one, there is no universal barbershop scent. In US, many consider Pinaud Clubman to be the barbershop scent, in Western Europe it's completely different for what they think of it, even more so in Eastern Europe. I am sure other countries feel the same way.
XXX, while it's a nice scent, has nothing to do with barbershop, to me personally. Almost every soap maker has their own version of it, try some and see what you like Wink

Ben, I too have razorock xxx and while I enjoy the scent it does not smell like what I envision barbershop to smell like.  I recently ordered a few samples from mikes natural soaps, one of which was his barbershop scent, and while "barbershop" could be interpreted many different ways, his rendition was what I was expecting.  It is a very clean masculine scent, and I really enjoy it.  I would highly recommend you looking into that one.

As others here have stated, it's varied and it's personal. For me, it's more of a childhood memory. You may just have to take a chance and order a few "barbershops." This is where samples come in handy. Smile

The soap that has hit "Barbershop" in my brain the best is Barrister & Mann's Seville.

To me, Clubman is the ultimate barbershop scent. As far as soaps, the two I've tried are Mike's and Stirling. Both are nice scents. If I had to choose between the two, Stirling would get the nod. It's more powdery, less floral, with maybe just a tiny hint of Lilac. It also pairs better with Clubman Pinaud aftershave.

XXX is "supposed" to be modeled after Aqua di Parma (I put supposed in quotes as I do not find it to be all that similar), and that's not at all a "barbershop" scent.

Even though i don't use this soap to often the most amazing barbershop scent to me is Maggard razors. It smells like when you would go in a barbershop and that was powder scent In the air, with that fresh hot lather coming out the machine while another person just got his neck shaved of any hair and has that aftershave splash going on. I just love that scent and in fact I was trying to pick out a soap right now and will use that.

I also enjoy XXX but would not classify it is a true 'barbershop" scent. One of my favorites is Tonsorial Parlour by Catie's Bubbles. It is a collaboration between CB and Italian Barber so I think it is only available at Catie's Bubbles and Italian Barber. I am not the best at describing scents but has some strong citrus notes and a powdery scent to it. (if that is possible). It is definitely one of my favorites and I love finishing it off with a splash of Floid Amber.

Mickey Lee Soapworks' The Kraken is a take with salty sea/aquatic notes added, and Maggard's London Barbershop is another good one too. I tend to have a reaction to a molecule in most barbershop soaps, but B&M Seville gives me no reaction whatsoever.
