Compelling arguments for all four points. I especially agree with #1, especially since razors can be anywhere from 30 to 130 g.
About sticking with one blade for a while, yes and no. If the first blade just isn't working after 3 or 4 shaves (on the same blade), then by all means change it out.
But starting with a fairly popular middle-of-the-road blade like Astra SP does seem like a good idea.
About #4, "Irritation" - Some irritation can be attributed to chemical causes, like scent ingredients in soap. I find that most citrus scents or Green Irish Tweed-type scents tend to give me a bit of irritation even mid-shave. Which is unfortunate because I like how they smell.
The worst was when I experimented with Pears Glycerine Transparent bath bar soap for shaving. Half-way through the first pass it felt like lava.

We could be Heroes, just for one day.

I believe blade variety is a benefit, especially if all other variables are relatively constant. There are one or two well loved high quality blades that leave me with a face full of weepers. It would have been discouraging to me if I spent three weeks using one of those; might not have kept it up and gone back to bearded life.
I agree with most of your points, Blackland Razors .
Blades:
The blade thing I'm not sure we're on the same page. As was brought up already in this thread, maybe use a blade for 3-4 shaves as long as it's at least tolerable. After that, stick with the same set-up(razor, blade brand/type, brush, lather, and aftershave) for at least a month. After that if you want to try different things only adding one variable at a time.
Shave passes and direction:
THANK YOU! I absolutely cannot shave ATG on my neck. It just doesn't work for my skin and my whiskers. I can't tell you how many times "experts" have told me that my technique must be bad if I can't shave ATG on my neck.
You really know your target audience, Shane! I was checking out the giant lighted Blackbird behind you until you mentioned it near the end of the video.

Yea the blade choice thing is controversial. I think technique is 95% of a shave and the blade choice can dial in the final 5%. But if you haven’t mastered the technique, changing blades won’t help.
I would add #5: the ridiculous quest for PSF per shaving soap, although that seems to have died off (Thank the Lord!). Soap makers are not dermatologists.
Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.” “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.
