I have to agree, at least the best scent that has come out in the last 3 years in the wet-shaving world, is THAT amazing. If you like Mike's Orange, Black Pepper and Cedar Wood, you will ADORE this, is in that same DNA or vein but even better. As a perfume enthusiast, I would say this would pair amazingly with any of these: Terre Dhermes or its Flankers (eau tres fraiche, etc), Chanel Allure Homme Sport (due to the prominent orange note) and Tom Ford Rive D'ambre. I dont do shave soaps backups anymore (due to my num of soaps) but this will probably be my only exception in years. Now I cant imagine my life without this. Glad I also picked up the AS!!!!!!! 20/10 scent rating.

I got a soap and balm set int he mail today.  I like it but I'm not getting any burnt or smoke smell.  We'll see once they've had a chance to come to room temperature as the scent is sometimes muted when they're really cold.  At first (cold) sniff I'm reminded of the recent releases T+S Orangilla and GD Valencia which are both wonderful orange scents.  I like it.

I have used a tub of Mike's Orange, Pepper & Cedar shave soap and while a good scent, it pales (as does Nordost) beside A&E L'Orange Verte.

I get a very distinct..and to my nose....unpleasant, artificial “smokey ” smell with it. Like orange juice with some drops of Liquid Smoke added in. Not even close to the real orange goodness of T+S Orangilla and GD Valencia...But that’s my take...your nose may vary...That said...I can definitely see how people who like darker scents will love it.

got mine today and I think this is the scent of the year. I get no smokey and I hate anything smokey. This smells just like oranges and the dry down is very complex but still oranges. This gets my vote for scent of the year for sure!

Its always interesting how different noses will smell the same thing differently.  I was actually looking forward to some smoke.  I think I must have a similar sense of smell as bgolfo  although he doesn't like smoke.  I like it in moderation.  Noble Otter Plunder for example has the right amount of smoke for me.  Also like THB Sandalwood Smoke and Cracklin Rosie with their smokiness.  One of the very few scents that I can't handle in anything more than the tiniest amounts is leather.

I finally accepted the fact of variability in the perception of scents a few years back when my wife and I had been out shopping and had sampled several colognes.  I brought back sample cards for later sniffing and I mentioned to my wife that one of them was so mild as to be virtually imperceptible to me.  She picked it up and took a sniff and recoiled saying that it was overwhelmingly strong.  Weird.  I got nothing and she got hit with a truck of scent.  I know I'm from Mars while she's from Venus but there is obviously something else going on.  If you're going to base buying decisions on people's online written reviews/comments you'd better be sure that their sense of smell aligns at least somewhat with your own otherwise you're taking a risk that you might not like it or it won't be what you expect or you might not smell anything at all.  Its long been one of my complaints that many artisans under-scent their products.  I'm not so sure about that anymore.

Totally correct! Case in point....for me...it’s long been one of my complaints that many artisans OVER-scent their products. That’s why it’s so challenging for artisans when it comes to scent composition and strength. The good news is there is something for everyone out there these days...

I think it depends on whether a person really likes a given scent as well and what season it is. Today, I used A&E Tertius which is a very strong leather/oud scent and in heat is overwhelming. However, today it's around 50F where I am at and it was magnificent and I followed up with Aramis AS. I was literally oozing testosterone when I finished.  Cool

The point here is for you that’s totally correct.....for others...maybe yes...probably no...It’s all so personal. It’s entirely about individual perceptions...And there’s no predicting that person to person...

Received my set today and will use the goods soon. Compared to Ariana & Evans’ L’Orange Verte and Mike’s Orange, Cedarwood & Black Pepper, the scent of Nordost is rather subdued and more linear just from the jar.

However, lathering it will probably change things, and the splash and balm will likely continue the evolution of the scent. After all, soap is not a great medium for representing scent when compared to a splash or a stronger liquid concentration (EdC, EdT, EdP). Looking forward to the experience!
