Author of $10,000 eBay auction for Wolfman Razor admits his motive

Bruce, speaking of toothbrushes... There are knife forums, led flashlight forums, vintage FJ landcruiser forums, etc etc you name it. I love the spirit of a forum of enthusiasts who share ideas and knowledge and lend hands to all comers.

Ten years ago we were all in the dark when it came to trouble shooting or learning details. These days knowledge is vast and readily available. I'm involved in several but I'm leary of those where the organizers have a dog in the fight, so to speak. Transparency is important, otherwise the "knowledge" shared is tainted.

Too many jealous people out there. Instead of feeling happy for others and their good fortunes, they spend their time hating.

Personally, I own several Wolfman razors and I have posted pictures of them before, not to brag, I'm upfront about it, I can afford them, but to share it with the community. Unfortunately, haters are going to hate. Therefore, I don't share anything anymore.

That's why I have never seen this as a hobby, but a lifestyle. I buy gear for my usage and enjoyment, and frankly I could care less what anybody else's think of it.

As much as I agree with a lot of the complaints about waiting list snafus, etc, this whole mess with Wolfman was made by the same community that criticizes this ebayer and his description of basically a dysfunctional community.

Since this whole Wolfman thing started a few weeks ago, I read how people talked about the issue and I can say that it was pathetic. Anybody watching from the outside would think this is indeed a crazy community.

Since I have been told by the administration that I'm the "most hated member" at DFS, let me share a few small thoughts.

I have helped a lot of people in my years participating in these type of forums, but sometimes I call things they way I see them and I don't dance. Some people don't like honesty, I rather be honest, than a hypocrite. In the last few weeks I even sold several of my Wolfman razors to members in here that missed the list or have been waiting for a long time. I didn't have to that and I didn't make much on the deal, but that's who I am. I never bragged about it because I don't care about such things. And if you think that I'm bragging right now, then you really don't know me and I don't care to explain myself to you, whomever you are out there.

To me, been able to help someone else has always been a blessing because my life has been blessed by success. I don't need money and I don't have kids, so helping a friend or a stranger means a lot to me, can't take it to the grave. But for the haters out there, they can never see the good in others, only jealousy.

I'm done with these forums, the hypocrisy, and the lies and deceitful practices by forum administrators. I'm done with people that in front of you are one thing and behind you are a whole different story.

I'm done dealing with jealous and hateful people. I have better things to do with my life. My few real friends? They know who they are, so I'm not concern about them. I do feel sorry for those of you that spend your time hating, instead of enjoying, that must be a hard way to live.

I want to thank wingdo for opening my eyes and for letting me know how the DFS membership felt about me.

I honestly don't see anything in this post that warrants a delete bud, at least not from where I'm concerned. I like rants. We are human, sometimes we gotta do that and forums should be a place we can do that because we have human emotions, period.

I agree with you that the Wolfman stuff got way out of proportion, especially with the accusatory stuff which blew me away with its insanity. The only thing that was so weird to me, and hard to understand, was how individuals that have some of the unobtainium gear (Paladins, Morris and Forndran, Wiborg, Wolfman), continue to get more, while those that do not, continue to not get it. Its just weird, I dont understand it, but it is what it is I guess. I'm sure this will all eventually balance itself out. I am exploring other options in the meantime and remaining patient and many times, my desires die out. Its like sleeping on a big money decision, always best.

A few weeks ago, someone mentioned a hobby of "balloon tying". So out of curiosity, I Google'd to see if there was a forum. Not only a forum, but magazines, conventions and everything and more that Wet Shavers have.

See grim that is something I did disagree with him on. So far, I've found this forum to be BY FAR the best shaving forum I've posted at. Many of the posts I've seen here would have resulted in several silent bannings elsewhere. This is an excellently moderated forum, and the environment is fantastic.

There is a forum for just about everything. There are people out there with the strangest hobbies / fetishes and there is a place for all of them to go. The Internet is a weird but wonderful place, and occasionally scary.

Hector, the community would be a lesser place without your unbridled contributions. Hope to continue to see you around like usual and that your knee is recovering well!

The eBay guy could have let sleeping dogs lie. Anyone who didn't realise his listing was a joke, or took it as anything else are probably the only ones that need to reflect on their attachment to material things and reassess their own priorities.

He could have ignored the many haters that I presume flooded him with messages on eBay.

He makes some points. The way he delivered them wasn't very delicate. So what? That's his own opinion. Whether or not we agree with the points he presented doesn't give us the moral high ground to debate his reasoning or motives and cast judgment. I for one would hope that if he isn't already a member here that he'll join and participate in a constructive manner. Adding perspectives and balance is never a bad thing.

People like him and Hector and you and I are the community. For better or worse. We don't have to be here. We don't have to agree. We should enrich each other through discourse and PICTURES!

I don't participate in the SOTD threads since I am an awful and uncreative photographer. Looking at the pictures others post is fun for me. I enjoy seeing things I didn't know about and getting on a tangent I didn't expect to find myself on because I discovered an interesting product that way.

If we can give criticism, which we all seem fairly capable and enthusiastic about doing, then we ought to be secure enough to also get it in return occasionally.

Marko  hit the nail on the head. Since I've been involved with this community, I've dealt with wet-shaving enthusiasts from Italy, France, Denmark, and all over the good old USA.

I thought the original ebay post was hilarious and I think the person who posted it made his point in a humorous yet gentle way.  Going back in to spew his vitriol is an example of drilling too deep so that you come out the other side and ruin the original intent.  I guess the reason he delivered his message on ebay was that no shaving forum would have permitted him to post what he did - the guy has obviously spent considerable time on forums as he seems well informed on what goes on in forum land.  Its kind of pathetic really, I mean whatever you may think about people generally and their attitudes towards shaving, nobody is being hurt and as a matter of fact, I see bridges being built between people all over the world which is a good thing.  Where is all this anger coming from? The ego that allows him to sit in judgment of us all is sadly a common feature of the human condition.

As for me, I'm going up to have me one damn fine shave

And grim ,  I wasn't upset about any of this. Of course I realize there are differing opinions, and I wanted to express my point of view-respectfully disagreeing with that fellow, and expressing my gratitude and appreciation for this great hobby. BTW, I used to shop at the Caswell Massey store on Lexington Ave. in Manhattan, and would buy the Number 6 cologne, AS, and balm, because it was reportedly the cologne George Washington wore (and I liked it). They've been in business since the mid 1700s, and I wouldn't be surprised if between drinks and discussing the memorialization of our inalienable rights, the founding fathers discussed whether a balm was necessary or even beneficial in warm weather.

Please permit me to give a shout out to Hector, hrfdez , as he's an example of the kind of spirit I've discovered on this forum: He sold me a Paladin brush, which quickly became one of my absolute favorites, in a BST transaction. He charged me exactly what he paid for it previously on BST, while I'm sure he knew he could have turned a profit for such a scarce brand of brush. Hector, if you decide to take a break, I will miss your posts!

Because eBay is a great place to make a political statement... O.o

I can see people being bewildered by say, collecting Beanie Babies or some other non-life impacting thing. But shaving is something you do every day. It's therefore of at least some importance to most. I don't consider shaving a hobby, therefore. But sure, I'm as guilty as the rest of you of owning^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hcollecting shaving gear. C'est la vie!
