ATT SE1 vs Vector?

I know that a couple of you have mentioned which material you're referring to when posting about the SE1, but did any of you use the aluminum one?

I should have clarified that in the OP. My mistake, as it's the Aluminum one that I'm currently looking at.

I haven't used the aluminum SE1 but the only difference is supposed to be the metal.

I imagine there'd be a difference between the two in terms of weight and how it would affect the performance, so just thought I'd ask and see.

Looks like I'll continue saving for the vector at this point.

For me, I prefer the heavier weight. With lighter razors, applying the right amount of pressure overcomes the weight difference. Put a Bakelite handle on a razor head and then switch to a heavy SS handle, it's still the same razor head. A tweak in technique solves the change. Many people get stuck on one technique for every razor they use, when every razor needs it's own technique, which may be more or less pressure.

Above the Tie’s aluminum razor line was originally called Calypso, although they seem to have dropped that naming convention with the SE razors. However, when someone mentions Calypso, at least I immediately know they’re talking about an aluminum razor.

In any case, I had the aluminum SE1 for a while, and enjoyed it quite a bit. However, with some time, I noticed that I wasn’t using it quite as much as some of my other razors, so I moved it on. The light weight was a nice change from time to time. (You can of course also pair the head with a heavier handle.) For me, the Proline blade wasn’t as good as the Feather Pro in this particular razor.

Haven’t tried the Vector yet, so all I can offer are my (Calypso) SE1 observations.

Thanks for the feedback..and yes you're right. It is called the Calypso. I didn't know that it referred to their aluminum line though.

I have both and LOVE them both equally. They are so close in efficiency and comfort that it would be unfair to any of them to rate one over the other (this is with Schick Prolines Blades). What I will say is your decision could be made based on looks or maybe on weight (SE1 is much heavier than the Vector).

Correct! I only own stainless steel razors now(prefer their weight)

I have both in SS and I'd say the Vector is smoother and the SE1 a tad more efficient. Both mild razors for sure though (although the SE1 bulky looks predispose for more aggressive behavior). If I had to choose one it would probably be the Vector, however the SE1 is a great razor as well.

I have both razors. Vector seemed softer to me.
