Anything that can go wrong will happen while I'm shaving...

No doubt it was an enjoyable shave. Soft is the theme of this knot. It was just so floppy it was a bit hard to apply the lather. I'm not going to replace the knot, but I will see about some extra help on making some backbone with a hair-tie at the base. If it doesn't work, that's ok. I'll still use it, it's just a bit more work... Like applying soap with wet spaghetti. Lol.

Heck maybe it'll become more natural with additional tries... Like walking on a moving bus or boat. Building muscle memory.

Used the new silvertip badger knot this afternoon. As I expected, it was floppy without any backbone. When wet it has the consistency close to a wet rag. I still managed to build a lather that was 3+ passes worth. It was just messy and difficult to apply. The face feels, however, was pure bliss... Soft as the day is long.

Not sure what I can do, as the knot is set as low as it can in this handle and still has a 58mm loft (I believe). I saw Eric MaineYooper had tried a hair-tie (or something) to hold the knot tighter. Maybe I'll try that next time?

Regardless, it was a comfy close shave, so, it was still a success.

Edit: I just pulled the knot again and really cleaned the hole out of all of the excess silicone from prior knot sets. I then reset it, really forcing it into the socket. It appears to be at 52mm now. So, definitely an improvement. We'll see how it goes.

Used it again last night. It worked much better at ~52mm. The brush will always be floppy, but with the height in check, it's a more manageable knot. Previously, at 58mm, it felt like I was lathering with this ...

I just picked up, a few minutes ago, an AP Pure Bliss as well as a TNS Quartermoon from a really nice member. One of the two will fix the issue. If I turn out to love both, I'll probably swap both PAA knots I got. The other is slightly less scritchy, but still not in my wheelhouse.

It just bothers me that i tried this knot in the past and it wasn't like this. Ooh well, I guess things change.

Ok... Moved this conversation to my personal thread. It already took up too much of the brush of the day thread, and that wasn't my purpose.

So I had a chance to shave with the other PAA knot this afternoon (Stygian). I was wrong... This one is rather good and smooth. So, it's just the Roswell Grey that misses the mark (as it has broom hairs, not brush hairs. Lol.). This is good news for me, as (1) my purchase wasn't a total waste and (2) I now have two knots coming in to fill one brush. More of a chance one of them will work.

Fwiw, I paid $17.28 shipped for the cheap-o DSC brush and another ~$9 for the PAA knot replacement. So, under $30 and I have a brush that's outstanding (and surprisingly enough, looks as good as some $60+ handles on Etsy). I don't know if the picture does it justice, but it's about 50-50 swirl of light and deep blues with highlights of light purple popping in at random spots. Being thrifty paid off this time.

As for the shave, what can I say: Stirling performs. Good for the face, good for the wallet (but not so good for the Sheep that gave his all for it, lol). Another great shave with the Overlander / Dorco / Stirling 1-2 combo. Have a good one folks!
