So I emptied the DSC brush of the knot. It just got to me.

I also managed to widen the hole a bit. Not sure if it worked well enough, but I figure I'll grab a cheap 26 mm knot and find out.

I'm thinking of something like a tuxedo? I want a little more backbone in it, but also very soft tips. Unfortunately for the life of me I can't remember which ones were and which ones weren't good. Anyone have an opinion on the Maggards vs APSC vs ??? For Tuxedo knots? For some reason I want to say the APShaveCo tuxedo was bad... But I can't be certain I was remembering it correctly.

Thoughts? I am definitely hedging towards a black knot, but ideas are always welcome.

I wish that I could help you out, but I don't think I have had a tuxedo knot! The Maggard ones seem to have very positive reviews without Canadian Post fees!

Thanks Eric. I decided to send a note to Phoenix Shaving asking to add their black stygian knot to the order. I don't think my order has moved at all in the process, as it's the weekend. That'll make it a cheaper knot, since this is more of an experiment than a valued brush purchase.

If that doesn't work, I'll likely grab an AP tuxedo. As I said, I can't remember which was less savory. I might as well buy the better priced one (again, a cheap brush experiment). Besides, Andrew has always been a good, active vendor in the community. If it's a crap shoot either way, might as well hedge towards those you know.

UPDATE: Received a reply from Phoenix. I was able to add the knot by placing another order. They'll then refund the shipping and package them together. Yea!

I have seen what are supposed some of the things that occurred with Douglas and PAA. My experiences with PAA and him directly have all been excellent so I found it shocking. Not saying it didn't happen, I was wet shaving but not involved in the community at the time. I also wa sable to change an order after I placed one without hassle. I also messaged Douglas on FB and he made a short, personalized video showing me how to do what I needed to do which I thought was pretty cool.

Used the new silvertip badger knot this afternoon. As I expected, it was floppy without any backbone. When wet it has the consistency close to a wet rag. I still managed to build a lather that was 3+ passes worth. It was just messy and difficult to apply. The face feels, however, was pure bliss... Soft as the day is long.

Not sure what I can do, as the knot is set as low as it can in this handle and still has a 58mm loft (I believe). I saw Eric MaineYooper had tried a hair-tie (or something) to hold the knot tighter. Maybe I'll try that next time?

Regardless, it was a comfy close shave, so, it was still a success.
