Scentsless Shaver
Oakland, ME
Hey Paul!

I meant to chime in yesterday, but, you know, life happens!

So, the Henson. I looked at it on my phone, and now Google or Android is nicely placing ads for it on any page it can! It looks very interesting. But, for a guy who doesn't blink (much!) when buying knots and brush handles, $70 for an aluminum razor (although I guess I can get it in cool colors!) seems high? Is it worth the coin? I love mild yet efficient razors, and injectors and the Sabre are tops for me in that department. The Yates 921 is probably close, having beat out the Karve, which is still good, but user technique is variable here!

anyway, sorry about the bad shave. We all get those. The ones I hate are the stupid user errors, like not lifting the razor as I slide the head over to hit some spot that I just decided to do, and give myself a nice slice! I blame it on mild efficiency and that I was lulled into forgetting I am holding a deadly tool to my throat!

Thanks Eric. It's ok, we all have them. Roll with the punches, I guess.

Honestly, I don't know if the aluminum is worth the money. For me, yes it would be. That's only because I know it is the only razor that works well and consistently for me. I can get a DFS+, without excessive pain, 95% of the time. If you've read my shaves in the past, you'll know that I hate getting less than a close shave. The stubble annoys me to no end. You might not be in the same situation. Thus, I
balk at telling you it's a great value, mainly because I'd hate for you to try it and find it doesn't work for you. Everyone is different, ya know. That price hike really sucked.

I was lucky enough to get my aluminum for a good price secondhand. Of course it has no warranty, but I'm very careful with it. Hopefully it'll last for another decade or two.

I'm actually experimenting with the aluminum again. I'm a sucker for a very light razor, and after using it last night to 'fix the shave' I realized that I really missed that when I graduated to the titanium. Thus I'll be revisiting which I like better: Titanium or aluminum. The aluminum makes a good backup, but if I find that I'm happier using the it, I'll sell the titanium and buy a second aluminum.

MaineYooper Having read your experience on your diary, I would say the Henson is a good bet. Every time I use my Henson, I always wonder why I ever use anything else. For reference and comparison, the Yates 921 is my personal top-tier razor, and the Henson gives me the same level of comfort and efficency. I find the Henson to be more comfortable and efficient than a Schick G injector.

I am, however, annoyed by:

* the price increase
* the over-abundance of targeted marketing
* the fact that Henson will not produce an aggressive version in aluminum

So I received my order from Stirling today: two soap samples of Gin & Tonic. It smells pretty good, imo. I've decided, some time ago, that the best method for me to try a soap is two samples. Get approximately 2 oz which should last quite a few shaves, and it only cost $7 If I don't like it. Sometime ago I snagged a 10 pack of green aluminum 2 oz containers from Amazon. They've been perfect for these samples.

Of course, I know that the profit margin on a sample or two is very low. So I toss in some other things just to make it a good sale (hopefully) for Rod and Mandy. This time I included a bar of pumpkin spice hand soap, and a tub of unrefined shea butter. Winters coming and I get horribly dry hands. I've seen others swear by shea butter to help stave off the cracking, drying skin. So, I'm going to give it a try.

Unfortunately, no 'family photos' as Tapatalk is down for DFS. This hurts. Ugh. ☹️

I agree with Paul 100%, the Henson is an excellent razor/design.

I don't generally like aluminum razors, but I love my aluminum Henson head. I do not like the pencil like Henson handle, so I swapped it with a TiBam Titanium. Balance is spot-on.

Henson's do show up on the BST for $40 to $50 from time to time, but honestly it's worth the extra money to just grab a new one and pick your favorite color!

Gentlemen, thank you for your help! I will start scouring the interwebs, as well as looking over the color options. Because I really need another razor, just like I need a second or third cookie!

From what I hear, you can request different colored parts (cap, baseplate, handle) from Henson. I always thought the "military green" and "rocket red" head combo would look cool.

If serious do a BST for Want to Buy and see if someone that bought when cheaper will give a good deal. Nothing ventured, nothing gained

[Image: 2Z9k2u3.jpg]So now that I'm on the fence about the Twig, I have an email off to Leaf to see what issues I might have with the finish.

This unit I got has some bubbles in the chrome, under the "cap". I sent a picture off to them to get their take. I'm hoping it Isn't indicative of future issues. I definitely can't resell it knowing it'll crap out on someone. So, we'll see what they say.

So, no shave today. We're currently on our way back from Mystic, CT. We hit a few shops, strolled through the village, had dinner at Mystic Pizza, and just enjoyed the evening.

This morning we did a bit more shopping at Old Mystic Village then headed over to Ocean Beach Park for a little bit. My favorite part... Playing in sand and water with my 10 year old daughter. Great family fun![Image: d2a0a4c44c1444a045f60331e30ac828.jpg][Image: a597516db82bc8d43402efb736078650.jpg]

Not yet banned on B&B... but I'll keep trying.
