Speaking of biking, remember to be careful and pay attention. Wear a helmet, maybe some gloves, and try not to get distracted when in motion. Sounds pretty basic, but sometimes we can forget the basics, if even for a short few seconds…

What happened so we can all learn from your experience?

Well, it’s quite embarrassing really. I’d had my phone out to take a photo. I resumed my ride while still trying to shove my phone back into my pocket.

I’m quite proficient at riding with no hands on the handlebars. However, this time I didn’t have enough speed to do that, so the front wheel started to wobble. Then it completely turned on me, and I knew I was in for a short flight and a painful landing. There was some blood, lots of swelling, and as it turned out later, a fractured finger.

Who knew a fractured finger could be such a hassle?! When I can bike again, I’ll be sure to have at least one hand on the handlebar at all times…

Spencer, that's a nice bike. I've been a classic & vintage bike guy myself, but have been looking at maybe getting a CF bike as well. While I don't do group rides, I live in an area that's just made for biking. Lots of climbing out here, though.

Matt, I hope you recover quickly. I usually place my phone in my saddlebag and ignore it until I get home. It's a great tool, but it can be demanding at times.
