Another newbie here at DFS from N. Texas (DFW area)
Started my wet shaving journey in Dec 2018 when I got fed up with the 5 bladed carts from Schick. Tried just about everything under the sun before that, best cart shave I remember was with the Gillette Mach 3, but IIRC in 2018 they were hard to find on shelves, it was all stocked with the 4 and 5 bladed cart thingys.
Lots of various forum lurking and searching had me buying a Gillette FB first week of Jan 2019 from a local wet shaver/Gillette collector, and Amazon provided the typical ToBS, Proraso and a Semogue boar. First couple of shaves and I was hooked. Merkur Futur showed up a few weeks later...then in early Feb 2019 jumped into owning a Puma 89 'Special' straight, then a Henkels, and a Feather AC DX setup. Information overload on the first shaves with the open edges, so stuck to learning the DEs I had...fast forward to May 2019....I started open edge shaving more than 85% of the time now, ~5-6 days a week depending on travel.
Now...the collection of open edges is 'barely controlled'....DEs, SEs only a handful of those that catch the eye. My den is probably 'moderate' at best compared to the more serious hobbyists/collectors, but it's so much fun....no slowing down yet. I'll confess to being a complete open edge junkie now, as well as the same with soaps and after shaves/colognes.
