You know, guys, when one sees replated razors like that, it's almost like stepping back to the year they were new and starting life all over again.  Fin tail cars, anyone? Big Grin  (And, Hector, they are beautiful! Happy2)

Gorgeous razors, Marko and hrfdez !

I have yet to have any of my vintage razors re-plated, but If I did, the work would be done by Chris@RazorPlate. I've seen a lot of posts of his work and know he is a great asset to the wet shaving community. As was said before, his services are most definitely worth the wait!

I'll be the dissenting voice. My experience with Chris was about 50/50. Some were great, some were trashed. He screwed up a $600 Red Dot Fatboy and refused to correct it. I had Razor Emporium Matt correct Chris' poor work. I thought Chris was an honorable guy...but he just sucks. And I hope Chris reads this and responds, but he won't because he is coward. If he does read, I'd love to meet you in Lexington for lunch again and discuss my issues with you personally Chris. I'll await the PM.

People trash Razor Emporium but Matt came through, when he didn't have to, especially for me.

Add typical YMMV disclaimer.

Hey LOOT , I hear you and I appreciate your candid opinion.  We can only speak from our own experience and as I said in the above threads from a few years back, my experience with Chris was excellent. He did six replates for me, a couple of fatboys, an Aristocrat and three Techs. Two of the Techs and the Aristocrat in gold. The aristocrat and one of the fatboys needed some preliminary mechanical rebuild work which was done by Cap prior to Chris doing his work on them.

It’s too bad you had such a poor experience as I can understand your disappointment when your expectations weren’t met. Was this recently?

May 2018. In fairness, some of his work that I have is fantastic. My Red Dot and my brother's Fatboy, not so much. And I get that im in the extreme minority, but I'm not alone. Im just one of the few that voices grievance publicly.

Matt fixed my Red Dot and I sold it. No harm, no foul really. In my personal experience, Matt Razor Emporium is better. Chris just proved himself to be less honorable than advertised. Same can be said about me, by others, im sure.

I dont care who uses what service. The important part to know is, they all are imperfect. Carry on.

I agree that nobody is perfect - the reason I asked about timing is that it happens occasionally that a person's success become their downfall. They get overwhelmed with too many balls in the air and then something gets dropped.  Ive seen it happen in the legal profession as well as wet shaving.  I think that's the main reason guys like James at Wolfman are very structured and controlled about the work they take on and how much.  If he tried to satisfy everybody he'd just blow up and nobody would be happy.  The way he manages it everybody he deals with is happy and most importantly he is happy.

I'm not sure what happened with Chris. I met Chris for lunch and handed him 3 razors. Interesting guy. Really sharp guy. I told him I didn't care how long ny razors took...or what they cost, I just wanted heirloom quality results, with the obligatory understanding g that any one of my adjustables may come back as a box of parts. Im good there.

The first 3 razors were perfect. My brothers Aristocrat. My first Fatboy, a D3. My first Toggle, a D1.

While he had those, I scored an F4 Chrome Toggle. As a result, I have the only F4 Chrome Toggle CAP ever disassembled, documented on YouTube. It was also the only Chrome Toggle Chris Evatt ever plated.

I have 2 of the last Toggles Evatt did. I was told they would be the last 2 period. But I know he did an F4 in rhodium for Dragonsbeard. Good for him. Maybe Chris has done more, I dunno. Circumstances have made me a liar before too. No harm.

Ultimately, I got my grail D1 Red Dot Fatboy. Chris did it along with my brother's Fatboy in Rhodium. When they arrived, they were wrapped in a foam sheet. Both razors had hazy spots on the doors. I sent photos and simply asked Chris what I should use to try and polish it back out. I assumed the padding left a haze on it and I just needed to wipe it down with something. I immediately got a full refund to my PayPal account. An email followed shortly telling me to find someone else to plate it. So I did.

And just so its clear, i've had my issues with Matt here on this board. None of it had anything to do with his work.

He gladly took my Red Dot, even when he probably shouldn't have after I went after him so hard. That Red Dot is also the only razor Matt had to correct that came from Chris Evatt....maybe that had something to do with Matt accepting the work. I doubt it. Matt just seems to be a rather gratuitous dude.

Not trying to start a plating food fight. Thats just my story.
