I don't know if anyone got in on this limited release razor collaboration from both Alpha Shave Works & Texan Shaves but, I wanted to put up a thread for those that perhaps did and can post their thoughts & experiences on it. And for those that are inquisitive and just simply enjoy reading up on new releases and news with their morning cup of Joe.

It's done in true Texas fashion with the colors of the Texas Flag and a single Lone Star. Constructed fully of aluminum and anodized to the specific colors that you see below.

Some specs on the razor below directly from Steve Tinters Alpha site along with a Pic or two...

Is the geometry different from the shavedad? I assume these are just different colorways of the same head design. Not that this is a bad thing, as the shave dad is absolutely fantastic.

Yes, it's different. This version has a blade gap of 0.90mm. The Shave Dad version is 0.70mm.

Just came in today and perfect timing as I’m about to get my evening shave on. I opted for the premium box packaging and Steve  at Alpha does produce some nice packaging that is well thought out. For being aluminum, it has a nice feel to it & heft. To be honest it reminds me a bit somewhat of the Wolfman Guerilla Aluminum in feel & balance.

A few pics below (apologies for the pics, low lighting) and a 1st time shave with initial thoughts to follow….

First shave last night with the Lone Star Aluminum razor and I'll have to admit, this razor has a real nice combination of soft feel on skin with very good cutting ability. Reminds me very much of the Wolfman Guerilla Aluminum. Slightly better performance than the .84 and under the .99 versions of the same. The .90 gap with that uptick in positive blade exposure gives the Lone Star a very workable compromise between smoothness & efficiency without being extra on the blade feel side. Blade reveal is minimal but, that positive blade exposure gives an easy shave experience with a razor that though is lighter weight, still feels substantial in hand with good balance. I will say that the weight of the razor is primarily concentrated in the handle itself but, is distributed fairly well. The finish and quality of the anodizing is excellent throughout the whole razor. The lather channels are wide and run the whole length of the razor head and provides excellent escape for soap and whiskers to exit through. If there is a slight negative that I might have and trust me, I'm just nitpicking here. The anodized finish for me gave me just the slightest bit of drag and I had to adjust the shave angle a bit to get a smooth and glides free feel with it. I found it quick enough though getting it closer towards the guard for an easier and smoother feel practically eliminating the drag like feel.

Overall I'm very impressed with this razor on its first go let alone with a fresh Feather blade that it actually tamed quite nicely. I'll put in a few more shaves in just to paint a better picture in my head but, for a first time outing, this razor is a heck of a whisker reducer.

Great shaves to all...

Was going to stay with the Feather but, just for the sake of trying out a couple more blades, today I went with a fresh Nacet SS. And again, nothing short of a smooth BBS finish. The two shaves have given excellent results without a single miscue nor an inkling of irritation anywhere. For the money, this is a very impressive & capable razor.

Great shaves to all…

Third shave with a different blade and not a problem for this young upstart. 3 totally different blades that have worked extraordinarily well in the Lone Star that have resulted in BBS finishes from each one. One just gets more confidence with each pass & eventually with each successive shave, the Lone Star shows true pedigree in both performance & comfort not withstanding it’s a very affordable razor that brings true value to shave enthusiasts. The shave geometry and the stability of the blade once pinched & locked in between cap and base on the Lone Star equals a very formidable razor against most whiskers while being very gentle on the skin. Yes, it’s a lightweight with its all aluminum construction but, trust me, it exhibits a substantial feel in hand with better than average balance from top to bottom.

I’ll say this much. If Steve Tinter over at Alpha Shave Works decides to produce this razor in a more robust alloy, sayBronze/Brass or Stainless, this is going to be a top tier performer perhaps with a semi hollowed handle to keep it nicely balanced & weighted. And I’ll say this, if it’s produced in a Ti alloy, pay attention because this razor is going to really surprise many in the premium/luxury razor field. All speculation of course but, this razor has the potential to be something really special in those other alloys mentioned. As is, it’s an excellent razor that exhibits excellent efficiency, smoothness/comfort on the skin and is a bargain for what it delivers.

I hope Steve over at Alpha reads this. If he decides to make this razor in a premium alloy, I’m signing up. Guaranteed. Great shaves to all…
