I used to collect them from friends and family every xmas. They are awesome about Feb or Mar. They are better with a little age on them.

Man! What lengths does a guy have to go to to rid themselves of an unwanted fruitcake? And like a bad penny, the thing turns up again!! You'd think shipping it to the south pole would have ensured it stayed down

Do you soak it in rum? That can make them more palatable. Can, but usually not....

I never had it soaked in rum, but yes that would definitely make it edible for lots of folks. I'll have to try that next time I have some to see how I like it that way.

I tried to buy the ingredients to make one last year and they weren't available. If I want to make one this year I'll first try online for the candied fruits. BTW, I've never made one so it would be my first.
