I actually like v2 of the pre-shave better than the firmer original. It’s easier to rub into my face. V1 is perfect for travel, however, as it won’t settle upside down and make a big mess...

I found that the original formula didn't suffer from those issues. I wish Mo had not messed with it as it was already great.
I have now tried all the versions of it...and I found the latest, current version to be the best by far! Easier to apply and produces much better results. In addition...the current version of Unscented is the most truly “unscented” version of it yet. Zero smell...

Hmmm...I just traveled for a few months with v2. Put it in a couple of smaller, 2oz plastic travel tubs. Had zero problems...and certainly no messiness. That’s what the caps on top are there for...screwed them shut after each use...threw them in my toilet kit bag... packed them up....and they worked great!

I was about 25% of my way through a v1 jar of unscented preshave. Great results but it did begin to firm up considerably from when I first received it. Nothing major and no effect on performance. Unfortunately I dropped the jar and the lid shattered as well the tub landing face down on the bathroom floor. While I’m sure it was perfectly usable the thought of embedded bathroom floor contaminants led me to throw it out. I had another jar of v1 unscented on standby luckily and this jar has a nice spreadable consistency similar to say a jar of Vaseline. We’ll see if this one firms up...I have not tried the v2 yet. GD preshave has been an indispensable part of my routine.

Before the Fire reminds me of one of the Wrigley's chewing gums that I used to chew as a kid but it's been so long I can't remember which one. I like it though.

Welcome to GD world.
Sorry, I know a lot of guys rave about their stuff... But I've owned 5 due to such reviews, and they've all been completely unbearable.

Did you let the owner know?

I've been using Grooming Dept Rejuvenating Serum (lavender ) as part of my post shave routine for a while now and like it a lot.  After the hot/cold rinse I apply some witch hazel followed by the Rejuvenating Serum.  I let that soak in a while and then apply whatever splash or toner I've chosen for the day.  Happy2  I was initially concerned that the scent might clash with my splash but the lavender is mild enough to be undetectable after application of splash.  My skin feels great and at the rate of consumption - once daily -  I'll probably get a year + out of one bottle which is pretty good value.

I also use the Moisturizing Pre-Shave and I really like that stuff too - both v1 and v2. I use a small plastic sample scoop/stick to scoop up a small amount before my first and second pass. I use the unscented mostly but also have several other fragrances and they're all fine. No rubber, burnt or otherwise as far as my nose can detect. I've commented elsewhere that I find this stuff to be almost magical in its ability to transform even poor performing soaps into decent performers. I'm dragging soaps out of my box of unloved products that I haven't looked at in years and they're giving me wonderful shaves.

In my opinion, soaps and creams are the most personal items in wet shaving.  Razors, blades and brushes can just be OK.  However, what I like the smell or performance of you my think it's not for you.  The good thing there is more product out there which can satisfy the likes and needs of everyone.
