I bought a mallard lavender in 2019 and curious if the scent profile has changed any since then? It did not smell anything like lavender to me way back then.

What was the specific name of the lavender scent back in 2019?

Mohammad has produced several different lavender scents. He rarely releases the exact same scent twice.

I have a Kairos 2 soap with the Lavender scent that was produced with 97% French High Elevation Lavender and French Maillette Lavender along with 3% violet absolute, cedarwood, labdanum, geranium and jasmine sambac. It is a beautiful scent.

There was also a Kairos soap called English Lavender.

Mallard soaps are generally released with gourmand scents, not a floral scent such as lavender.

Many lavender scents are produced using a lavender hybrid called Lavandin. It is a much more pungent version due to the natural camphor content. Thus, if you are used to smelling the Lavandin scent, then pure English or French lavender is going to smell different.

This was the first one I used and the lather was super thick and slick! Going go with Coconut Fig this morning.

It was just called lavender and I purchased it in 2019 (see Pic). I've tried 4 soaps (Mallard lavender, Donkey Franken lime, Lusso unum, and Janus Voyage) and they all had a similar overwhelming pungent top note that made them all smell very similar to me.

I was going to ask if he ever offered soap samples but
I haven't had to look for soap for a number of years and I didn't realize he does not have a stable product line and that every batch could be a different formula and scent. That is an interesting business model. Given my past history with the scents, I am not sure I would be willing to take the risk (with the hassle of selling and trading) but that is OK he seems to being doing extremely well.[Image: 8wGvKA9.jpeg]

I was not aware of the Mallard Lavender. I guess that was before Mo started using gourmand scents for Mallard. I do not know what type of lavender he used for that scent.

There should be some of the new Mallard soaps at a few vendors in the next several weeks. The current Mallard 2024 will be significantly improved over the 5 year old version. Over those 5 years, Mohammad's perfumery skills have also improved significantly.

One of the most popular scents from this release was Tonka. The scent notes are: Tonka, Honey, Dried fruit, Mixed Nuts Accord, Vanilla, Woody Notes. To me, the aroma reminds me of the Sugar Daddy candies I ate as a kid. Although there is no chocolate in the scents, because of the honey and vanilla, I also get a slight Tootsie Roll scent. If you like the aroma of caramel and toffee, you will probably like this one. The Tonka scent is not overly strong.

About 4 years ago I had read one persons negative opinion of Mo's scents and so I was pretty concerned buying 2 full jars of mallards without sampling. Today I have a pile of jars not one was sampled and all are used on the regular. I have soaps from a few other artisana but I've only ever finished Grooming Dept soaps. I think that's telling- the soaps are top tier quality and the scents are all excellent, some better than others, but even the ones that aren't my absolute favorites are still great. Mo's stuff is the best there is and his perfumery in soap making is the best I've come across- and I've used a lot.
