Aggressive Razor Comparison

You might wan to consider the Karve Brass Christopher Bradley razor with the G plate open comb. It has a blade gap of 1.36mm and a blade exposure of 0.25 mm. It fits within your price range.

However, do not forget the the aggressiveness of a razor also depends upon the blade with which it is equipped. Super sharp Blades like Feather, BIC Chrome Platinum, Gillette Perma-Sharp Super, Gillette Nacet, and & O'Clock Super Platinum (black) can make any razor more aggressive.

Of course, if you are into aggressive razors, you might want to consider straight razors or a shavette equipped with a Feather Professional AC blade.

I only use aggressive razors and now I am using only Yates EH. Wolfman, Muhle R41, Ikon and two or three slants stay in the drawer.

Thanks for all the comments. They are quite helpful. One very generous member is sending me the R41 to try. I’ll see how that goes.

I really like my Ikon Tek with a Tibam Ti handle on it. More maneuverability and better balance. No pressure and let the razor do all the work.

Some great advice which I would agree as well. I enjoy a very efficient razor which one may describe as aggressive. I have never been able to tame the iTech which yields, for me, a harsh shave whereas I can use the R41 as a daily razor. So everyone has their own unique experience.

I do find the Yates EH plate an excellent smooth and aggressively efficient razor that would fit your requirements and far superior to the Karve G or Timeless offerings. You also may consider the Paradigm Salient at $99 a great choice although it is not as efficient as the Yates EH configuration - it’s more like the H plate. So now you have even more options under $150 than your original post. Good luck and let us know which one(s) work for you.

The one thing is the definitions used for aggressive and efficient, which can mean different things to each of us. 

For me:

aggressive means easily causes irritation or can cause weepers.  For some it means blade feel and for others it means what I call efficiency. 

Efficiency means the ability to reduce stubble or growth in the least amount of passes or buffing. 

I am looking forward to reading this.  I generally do not mind 2 passes and clean up or 3 passes and no clean up.  I do not like any razor that I need to buff with. 

I would also say that if a used Tatara Nodachi comes up for sale with a Massamune handle, I would take it in a heartbeat.  That razor is very efficient and not too aggressive.  I sold one here for 110 I think a year ago, it was a steal.

To clarify I am looking for the ideal combination of comfort and efficiency. For example my prewar Tech is very comfortable and with a Feather blade is semi efficient. Due to the generosity of a fellow member I have tried the R41 and for me it is very efficient and uncomfortable. My current go to razor is the Timeless Aluminum which is comfortable and almost there efficiency wise. I end up BBS with 3 passes and touch ups. I could use this razor daily however would still like to find something that was a bit more efficient while still comfortable. Right now I have my eye on the Timeless Bronze.38. I reached out to Matt and he thought the .78 OC would be too much for daily shaves. I am also intrigued by the Smile Bayonetta but would like to see some reviews. I am also going to have a look at the Yates and Paradigm offerings.

The Paradigm is made in China. I prefer to keep it USA or maybe Canada or Europe. I just looked at the Yates BYOR scalloped brass H plate. I have heard great things about Yates. I just don’t like the idea of giving someone my money and then waiting an undetermined amount of time to get the product.

One other option is a used Blackbird. I've seen those go for $150 or below on different BST forums. Made in the USA and one of my favorite razors.
