advice on wilkinson sword sticky vintage razor

Hi all I have seen this Wilkinson Sword razor up for sale at £65.00 pounds(that's equivalent to $92.00 dollars). I thought I would invest in one, but the trouble is I don't know alot about them. I have noticed that there is alot of Gillette vintage razors out there to choose from. So when I saw the Wilkinson Sword razor called sticky because of the patent handle, I thought as it's different It might be a good buy. But as I said I don't know alot about vintage razors. So is this razor worth the asking price & be a good investment to pass on in the family, or am I better looking for something else. Any advice would be grateful. Cheers

I'm not certain, but in the images I think that razor appears to be a little beat up for the price. I haven't updated my data recently, but when I was following razor prices, Wilkinson Stickys had sold for $46-120 ($75-164 cased) on eBay and $65-115 ($90-150 cased) on the forums. It is a very mild razor, possibly even more so than the Feather AS-D2, so some users really like them while others say they can't get a good shave with one. I had one for awhile and finally decided that it was just a little too nonaggressive for me. I use a Feather AS-D2 and am happy with it.

Hi John. Thanks for the info. I have asked the seller for better pictures if possible. He says the razor is in very good condition & the case has a crack on the top. Which I can see in picture. I will wait & see for more pictures & then maybe make him a offer. Again Thanks John you have been helpful.

I would have to agree with John and say it is a very, very mild shaver. Therefore, unless you can get good shaves with those mild DEs, that might be an expensive razor to purchase. You can easily find a few other vintage Gillettes for a much less expensive price.

I am glad this is your decision. I once owned a modern 50/50 plastic metal TTO and was really disappointed in the shave. I was going try to dissuade you from buying it, especially at that price. It just felt cheap, weak, and no weight. Doors never closed consistent. I saw one of these in a antique store for 15 usd and passed on it based on my previous experience.
