Advice for a shave balm.

I'm 39 years old and have used an electric shaver my whole life. I briefly tried disposable razors in high school but would get terrible razor burn and ingrown hairs. I purchased a couple of safety razors the other day and Henry Cavendish shaving soap which seems pretty nice. Forums like this one have been incredibly helpful. I tried them for the first time tonight and I can tell that I am going to need a good shave balm. I have a couple that I have been looking at on Amazon and think I will probably need a non-alcohol one because I do have fairly sensitive skin. Fragrances don't seem to bother. What are your thoughts on these? The Truman's one is where I'm leaning.

Haven't tried trumans but I like Proraso. Nivea sensitive is a good choice and available at your local box store. I generally just use unrefined Shea butter.

+1 for Nivea, or if you want something thicker for winter Stirling Soap balms are good.

Many of the merchants you will see here on DFS make superb aftershave balms and lotions.  The ones that I have tried and really like are, in no particular order:

The last one does contain alcohol but I have never had a problem with it.  Also, for all of these, a little goes a long way so just a small dab's worth spread across your shaved face should be all you need and they will leave your face feeling moisturized but not greasy.

There are also good over the counter products such as the already mentioned Nivea.  Proraso is a well known and generally liked brand and Italian Barber (see above) seems to sell it for less than Amazon so you might want to look into that.  I know nothing about Truman's.

I guess it depends on what you consider heavily mentholated. I find SC to be very light on the menthol. For those who don't prefer menthol free they offer Integrity.

Nivea and Stirling are both excellent. I finished off a bottle Nivea and plan to buy another one. Stirling is also a staple in my den.
