A gift from Will

1morepasswill knew that I really liked Tabula Rasa Steam Punk Shaving Soap and that I had been wanting to try a GEM Featherweight razor.  We had talked about this months ago and I didn't think anything more of it.  Well look what came in the mail today (and I won't even mention all of the holiday sweets he sent ).  I am still in awe!  







I believe this is Britain's answer to the GEM Featherweight as it is called the Ever-Ready Natural-Angle Razor. It came so pristine that I thought it was NOS with just a missing blade bank but Will assures me that is not the case.  You could have fooled me.  I have it all set to go for Friday's shave and am excited to use it.

SharpSpine and ShadowsDad, for an SE shave I have never cared for the GEM Micromatic open comb as I found it to be a real face eater and, besides the nicks and cuts, could just never get a truly comfortable shave from it.  However, I have heard that the Featherweight is really a different experience altogether and I was just wondering if you think it is less aggressive and, also, if you have any tips for using it.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

That was very cool of him. I have some TR steam punk that a member gave me to try and it is awesome stuff for sure. He gave me the rest of a tub which has plenty of shaves worth. The scent is the strangest I've experienced but I think I actually like it. Nice razor too btw.

Wow, this is all kinds of awesome. Well done 1morepasswill and congrats Freddy. The Feather Weight is a great razor to break into the SE world. It is much less aggressive than the OCMM and I would suggest starting with the entire head flat against your face. Then drop the handle down slightly until the back of the razor head just starts to pull away from your skin. Then shave and enjoy. Remember to keep your strokes on the shorter side of things as you develop the best angle for you.

Listen for the sound. It'll talk to you when you have the angle. Of course no pressure. It's as mild a SE razor as it's easy to find, but that doesn't mean that it's mild, just less aggressive than some of the others.

I had an Ever Ready Featherweight in as good condition but I passed it on to a shaver eager to get into se shaving. Strangely you had just mentioned a day or so afterwards that you were on the lookout for one so as soon as I came across this I knew where it was headed. It was a nice bonus it was cased as well. I have a 1914 like yourself and I'd say the shave is very similar and I'd agree with everything SharpSpine said regarding using her for the first time. Enjoy and try and have some of the biscuits and goodies left by New Years Day at least

Beautifully, Kevin. It's up again for tomorrow's shave. When I used it on Friday it had a brand new PTFE blade in it. Tomorrow's shave will have the same blade in the Featherweight but five shaves in.
