Have you talked to M about a refund?

I contacted him 7 days ago and explained the SN mixup. I asked him to try and track down #1. He said he would get back to me. Now, as simple spreadsheet could document 50 razors and their owners in about 10 seconds. I don't think a spread sheet matching SN and shipping address would be too much for a company that will put some kind of QC sticker on everything inside the box.

I did not ask for a refund. I just asked for what I was promised. I will not stalk him over it either. At this point, I am more interested in how long it will take to get a response, if I do.

So, my plan is to bitch and complain here as a matter of public service. If I don't get an answer by next Friday, I will BST #44. If it gets to that point, I am done with the brand and will probably start liquidating the ones I have. If I buy no more, the collection is kinda dead. No need to keep them all. I will keep 1 or 2 because they are such exceptional shavers.

I can almost say for certain that he has a list with him. One may ask how I would know? Well, when my Sailor went missing and I asked out of curiosity which SN it was, M replied it was #36.

I think you have a solid plan liquidation your stock and keeping just a couple around.

As for me, I'm out of the game until:

1) Post purchase customer support is improved
2) When and If he ever decides to make a titanium version to address things like weight and grip.
Interesting. Now I know for almost a certainty. Kinda odd not to get some form of communication. *shoulder shrug*

Cultural nuance in that part of the world.
Also in Asia, Thailand particularly.

The concept of giving and losing face.

If he tells you he can't do anything to help you, he makes you lose face.
By telling him about the serial mixup, you insinuate that he screwed up,
and made him lose face.

The solution from his side will be silence and pray that you forget to follow up.

I also asked him for a no. back in the day when I thought I was very early in the
ordering game...I got something else....was so out of it I didn't even mention to him.

Take what I give you, Im a legend -- that's their motto.

There is a saying in the used watch hobby that says: "Buy the seller, not the watch".

I'd hesitate to order from him based on everything I've read, to avoid to depend on him to resolve any issue with the razor that might occur.

Unfortunately that's how it appears lately.

If anyone is looking for a razor, I think the BST is the best route right now.

I remember there was a gentleman here probably about last year that had a horrendous mishap with his Sailor and dropped it from 10 feet or so from his porch to the cement while he was taking a SOTD photo, the thing looked pretty rashed up and pitted.

I believe he tried to contact M about maybe getting an exchange or a fix, but I haven't heard any details about it since, does anyone here know if that issue was resolved?

Well, I don’t have #1. I got #34. I ordered my razor the same day he first announced it, on January 23rd, so it looks to me like he just shipped the razors randomly once he had the entire production finished. And, if that is the case, he probably doesn’t know who got which number - he probably didn’t attach much significance to the numbers other than for provenance and documenting the limited production.

Sorry, LOOT. I would have been quite happy to exchange with you if I had received the #1.

Here’s my #34….

I remember that, here is a link to the B&B comment if anyone wants to see the results of such a drop: The Sailor fell about 14’ from my balcony onto the sidewalk in my backyard.

Looks like it was repaired or replaced as there is a later SOTD post in 2022, not sure whether this is the same razor or not?

Possibly GlazedBoker can update us with how the process went?

Same razor amigo. I sent it to Murat as it had to be diamond ground to flatten out the burrs on each end. The straight bar was not damaged at all in the drop and the ends were smoothed out somewhat to make it more aesthetically pleasing. The ends were slightly rolled and indented and the deep contusions on those ends could not be removed as that would have resulted in quite a bit of steel alloy to be removed. No replacement was offered from Murat nor did I ask for one. Might not look like a pristine conditioned Sailor but, it still shaves just as good. It’s just a shaving tool, nothing more, nothing less.

Moral of the story? Careful where you take your SOTD’s.

Great shaves to all….

I'd have to agree, although as I posted a few days ago, sloppiness from artisans are decidedly disappointing when they are charging top dollar.  I began reading this thread about a year ago.  First and foremost, what struck me were the posts raving about the quality of the shaving tool.  And that's what I looked for and hoped for in purchasing mine.  Unlike hduty, I don't equate this hobby to watches (another erstwhile hobby of mine); if nothing else, my entire wetshaving experience cost wouldn't add up to perhaps the cheapest of my artisanal watches, which are complex delicate instruments, almost works of art and fine finesse, whereas my Sailor - my most complex razor - is, really, essentially a well-designed machined and polished tool.  AND, for me, the honeymoon might be over but the quality of the purchase remains.  By that I mean the quality of the razor and its shave.  And after reading this thread this week, I spent the last three days using my Rocnel.  Well, the quality of the razor remains absolutely, utterly superb.  It's top draw.  Three days of great shaves.  I hope Murat gains customer sense to be willing to fix his errors and not sloppily ship out razors, but, all in all, the Sailor (at least in its essentially present incarnation) is just wonderful.

Today was top-of-the line and in all respects enjoyable.... Great shaves all, as GlazedBoker said!

Lesser I don't equate razors and shaving to watch colleting, nor did I claim so.

It was merely a reference to another hobby to get my point across: it's worthwhile to asses who you are buying from, and take into account what kind of service you might receive should you need it.

Fair enough. And a truth for so many things.
