I’m unsure whether a lighter weight material would improve the razor or not, overall. I think it would feel substantially different. The sense of weight is a big part of the experience of this razor, in my opinion. I guess one day we will see, but I expect I will still consider the steel model to be special and relevant, rather than thinking it is simply superseded by the titanium model.

Looks like I better order the MC then. I’ve been holding back thinking maybe I’d get lucky getting what may be the Perfect Razor.!

The regular Sailor 2021 is $490 versus $690 for the Master Collection, so it is worth considering that. $490 seems like excellent value relative to a high-polish Wolfman or H&S razor, whereas $690 is a lot more. I appreciate that the longer and slimmer handle on the MC makes a difference and those who have both say it is a significant improvement. The gold plating on the ring is only cosmetic, and the “made wholly by Murat’s hand” and numbered production may or may not add value for you. You may want to ask Murat whether he has also changed the handle on regular 2021s that he is making now, or if perhaps he would do it for you.

I’m not saying the MC is not worth $690 - it absolutely is - but the regular model is a very good option too.

MC also includes the stand if that's an interest, and I'm not sure Murat sells those separately.  And I've paid upwards of a C note for similar weight and quality stands, so combined with the gold ring option that's in line with the value proposition of the regular Sailor but it's nice to have the option of just the razor.

Good point about the stand.

Reflecting on this, I would definitely say that if you can afford a 2021 Rocnel Sailor you should get one and not be concerned about what the 2022 or 2023 models will be. A week ago I had 18 DE razors. Now I have 19 including the Sailor. Just one more razor, but the way I feel about my DE razor collection now is completely different. The Sailor offers such a unique and accomplished shaving experience and it opens up so many possibilities to tailor the experience. As much as I love many of my other razors, they give me variations of a similar shaving experience, while the Sailor is a completely different thing. If, like for me, this is all about the shaving experience rather than just cutting hairs, I think you have to experience the Sailor if you can.

Living on the edge
The one thing that bugs me about both the Taiga and the RSMC 2021 is the misalignment of the markers relative to each other
when the dial is brought to 0. They just dont line up exactly for me.

It's not a deal breaker but it irritates me a little bit in a $700 razor.

Ive been thinking about this too and while there is no way a customer can be sure, maybe M already knows the answer.

Not sure how Murat adjusted it, but on the Sailor I noticed with a blade in it (depending on the blade), the marks are precisely aligned.  With a Feather mine is spot on - with a Personna it may be just a hair different, but I have to squint to see it!   Wink  The marks on the gold ring are a trifle hard to see with aging optics - if I made any suggested improvement it would be to darken them (it almost looks like they might be inlaid, at least the zero dot)....

I agree about the weight, as it would probably feel a little uncharacteristic if it would be lightened a bit too much.

He told me "a few years"...that could be anywhere upwards of 3 years.

And he will do a steel-Ti hybrid model before attempting full Ti.

I got a sense it would be a loooong wait for full Ti so decided to get the MC and enjoy it until then.

Yes, when I communicated with Murat last time he mentioned he wanted to try out regular SS for the inner mechanisms of the razor, and have titanium for the exterior.
