1886 Star Razor

About 5 years ago I found this 1886 Kampfe on eBay.





Lacking blade stops on the razor and honing skills in my hands, I set it aside, borrowing the handle for my 1914 Ever Ready. After my successful experience with the French Perfecta razor, where I used a spine from a GEM blade as a wedge, I wanted to see if the same would work with this one.




The blade is held securely. I am a wee bit concerned about the exposed corners,  but I think it will be fine. Worst case I'd mute the corners on some abrasive.
I will take it for a spin tomorrow morning, wish me luck.

Galhatz, I also have a razor much like this, perhaps even the same model.  I found the angle almost impossible to find and eventually didn't bother with it again.  I shall be very interested to know how you get along with the razor.  

My favorite lather catcher is my 1907 Ever-Ready and I get very nice shaves from it.

The only important angle the angle in which the blade meets the skin, as flat against the skin as possible,  the comb just stretches the skin and makes sure I don't re-arrange my face...

At first I had the blade backwards to a point it was ineffective.



I moved it forward to get just enough exposure to my liking.
I have the 1907 Ever Ready... for some reason it feels a bit rough for me  but I will revisit it.
