“Modern” Injector and Gem Razors

Actually the only thimg wrong with the first version, which I own, was that it was too mild.  I find it shaves well cramked open and use it to shave my head these days.    The styling is based on the Pal, but the mechanism is from the Schick.  The newer versions added a bit to the top end, I believe.

The Parker adjustable injector seems like a direct copy of the vintage PAL to me.  Certainly in styling, as you say.  Doesn't the mechanism also copy the PAL?  I thought the safety bar went in/out like the PAL and not up/down like the Schick adjustable.  You know way more than I do, Whiterook, so I could be incorrect.

Yes, it does go up and down, just like the Schick.

You forgot the Parker injector!  The  V3 was recently released.    It's on the low end pricewise and borrows heavily from the Schick and Pal adjustables from the past.

Aha!  An actually injectable injector!  The first thought that came to my mind was the old Pal adjustable, which I’ve never actually tried.  And it’s a version 3!?!?  I hope one can infer that all the kinks have been ironed out by now.  With its cheaper price and wider availability this might be one worth looking into.

I like my Parker, and it arrived with 2-packs of blades that I think are rebranded Personnas. It shaves like my vintage Pal.

On the GEM front, you basically touched on three wonderful artisans and brands: Blackland, Atelier DURDAN, and Wolfman. Atelier DURDAN and Wolfman are at the premium end of the the pricing spectrum. I'm not sure where wait times are at for Wolfman, but I know Atelier DURDAN has brought in additional equipment and are progressively reducing waiting times for their orders. Shane shared timelines for the V1 and V2 of the Sabre. Fedsbackhand created a very informative comparison of his experience with all three brands and their respective GEM offerings. Personally, I am loving the Atelier DURDAN ++ Vestige (GEM format) right now, and it is quickly becoming one of my top razors. I am also looking forward to what Shane has in the works for the Sabre V2. And for a vintage benchmark, the gen 2 MMOC is my favorite GEM vintage razor (although I have only tried three variations). I have most of the vintage Schick offerings and very much enjoy the Type O with a twin II injector blade.

Two rabbit holes I must go down!  I will eagerly look for the thread comparing all three, and you reminded me there were different iterations of the MMOC.

For comparison, how do you rate the MMOC to the ++?

MMOC from my perspective is incrementally more aggressive and not quite as smooth (that assessment is coming from limited runtime on the MMOC.) But there is something special about the MMOC face feel. Very satisfying. And definitely recommend the Type O ! They do come up occasionally. I was fortunate to acquire mine thanks to a trusted forum member here.

I've never owned a modern Gem or Injector, but Ive tried several.  Notably the Blackland Sabre and PAA Gem razors, and the Supply and Parker Injectors.  I have owned an assortment of Gem and Ever Ready razors, and Schick and Pal injectors.  Most Pal Adjustables have sharp edges on the front that makes for an uncomfortable shave.  I've never owned a Schick Adjustable, and don't generally like adjustable razors.  My favorite of those two styles are the Gem MicroMatic Clog Pruf and the Schick Type I-1.  I don't use my Gem very often, but I use my Schick every day to trim my mustache and sideburns.  I mostly use a Blackbird or Timeless Slim DE, as they give me the closest shaves.  Those are my opinions, not that anybody asked for them.  YMMV. And for Gem: the Blackland Sabre and another with a name I can’t remember (Atelier or Blut?  Something like that).  Oh and the wolfman too, but I’ve never really considered that because I think (correct me if I’m wrong) you have to wait forever on a waitlist and then drop $400 to get it, which I just simply won’t do.

The Vestige is excellent from Atelier Durdan - their Black Friday sale starts next week. Would definitely recommend the Vestige with + or ++ plates. Three months isn't forever for the Wolfman but yes you are looking at a starting price of about $360 new. It's worth it for me. I could just use the Wolfman. I'm now near exclusively using GEM blades. Hoping that the Sabre v2 happens Shane!

PAA Starling was a disaster. Skip the SS version unless they make major changes to the design. Was released too early IMO. Not tried the alu version. Don't really care for super light razors. Haven't tried the Shield for similar reasons.

Hope that Tatara will produce a GEM... but AC is much more likely. They haven't confirmed a format so far.

Maybe Blackland will re-introduce (and improve) the ATT G1 and Rocnel continues to make the SE-G in small batches on demand.

Shield makes a SS version now. Quite hefty with the included handle. I've been shaving with it everyday for past 7 days. Very smooth and efficient.

I'm waiting for the MayPak GEM razors. Look them up on Instagram.
