I've tried the RR DLC Lupo and many other razors with a non-polished finish and found that they just don't glide as well as polished or chrome plated ones. The DLC coating was particularly bad no matter how slick of a lather I used. Thanks for any insights.

I concur with Dave. I really enjoy the 'drag' of the Stonewashed as it reminds me quite a bit of my Weber DLC. Not sure what it is about these particular coatings on DE razor heads, but I greatly enjoy the feel, much more so than polished razor heads. I find the Blackbird Machined, Black Oxide and Brass, and, now, the Titanium to have a similar 'drag', which, again, is a positive effect, for my skin. Smile

Thanks for the input guys. Now I just have to decide whether to jump in and get the stonewashed or wait for bead blasted handles to be available. I'm going to go with the hybrid plate for now and I can get a bead blasted top cap, but I don't know if mixing 3 different finishes (if I go with a stonewashed handle) would look weird or not. Decisions, decisions...

I don't see much of a difference in the Stonewashed and Bead Blasted finishes.
I have the Rockwell 6S and the Yates Stonewashed head and there isn't much of a visual difference.
Am I missing something, or do I need to use my reading glasses? Smile

As Jake explained it to me, bead-blast is similar to a satin finish. In terms of surface texture smoothness, bead-blast is kind of like in between stonewashed and polished.

As far as I'm concerned, having used both bead-blast and stonewashed finishes, they are both good. Just a matter of taste.

Man, I had just received the Machined finish about a week before the Bead Blast showed up on the website. REALLY wish I had waited, this looks so much nicer. I love the Yates Razor, it's basically become my #1 razor in just a week or so of use but the Machine finish is the most unappealing looking razor I own.

You were able to buy a machine finished Yates?
I've been wanting one in that finish.

Oasisdave must have meant the original Stonewashed finish as I don't ever recall seeing or hearing about a Machined finish.

Oasisdave, not a problem, Dave. No need to apologize. Smile

Nehbulah, so do I. I really enjoy the feel of the Stonwashed finish, on my face. Smile

I'm shocked how well the stonewash finish is working out for me. I actually like it more than my brass plate, I don't know why but it has a softer face feel almost Titanium in feel. I enjoy the stonewash coating miles above my Karve Ss in bead blast finish in face feel. Go figure because I was set on getting the electro-polished version when I emailed Jake. GL getting your masters Jake, all the best my man!
