What’s the difference between the Yates 921 and the ‘Merica razor made for the Wet Shaving Club?
Seems that the handle on the ‘Merica razor is more usable and it’s missing the spine on the base plate?
They both have that Fugly Yates finish...
Anyone reviewed the ‘Merica razor yet?

Paging Shavemd

I know the Merica was at one time Mark’s favorite razor for under $100. He knows both razors well

I've never used the Merica razor, but here is a thread on it.

Interesting!  I had never heard about this razor till today!
I was hooked when I saw the flag available on the top cap.

The Merica razor is a mild razor made by YPM but the design is more based from Wet Shaving club. It is my favorite sub $100 daily razor as it never fails to give a smooth, mindless BBS 3 pass shave.  I have not used a blade yet that doesn’t work well including Black Ninja, Feather, Polsilver, Astra, Nacet and Perma Sharp.  I happened to be a fan of the Stonewashed finish as it is very easy to maintain and the flag is the piece de resistance for me.  If you like blade feel and aggressive shaves this is not a razor for you. If you want a smooth relaxing shave or need a quick shave without worrying about bite, I would highly recommend it.
The 921 designed and made by YPM is in a league by itself giving you all the options from just on the mild side of mid aggressive to the soon to be released EH plate which is in the Charcoal Goods L3, Wolfman WR2 1.45 or the Karve G range of efficiency but still smoother.  These are available in 3 finishes.  The 921 hybrid is my daily driver along with 4 others and is a step up from the Merica in efficiency.
Just a quick addition both razors are made of 316 SS and the Merica has a magnet at the base of the handle to pick up a sharp blade on a slick countertop

I've always liked the look of the 'merica handle compared to the "original", but am looking forward to using the longer/thinner one in the passaround to see how it does.
The side-by-side photo is interesting to look at, I haven't seen that done before.

Shavemd Hey Mark I love my Yates 921 but the Merica flagged top cap is beautiful. Can the Metica top cap be used on the Yates 921 and if so can you post a picture ? How does mixing the cap/plates alter the shave smoothness, efficiency and ultimate comfort ?

They do not mix, I tried before selling my ‘Merica.

The Hybrid plate was the sweet spot for me, I had to work harder with the ‘Merica to get BBS, but the 921 Hybrid just works. Ymmv.

What is this hybrid Yates plate that keeps getting tossed around?
Am I missing that on the Yates website?

OK...I’m slow.
So what’s the difference between the Yates M and the regular Yates?
(Why do razor manufacturers always make this so ridiculously complicated?
Karve has excellent information on their razor specs...ATT is the worst.)

OK, I’m more than slow.  Stupid.
Found it.
I’m also sure that if I looked in the Yates thread, I’d have found all the info...
Sorry!

The Merica top cap looks similar to the Yates from first glance but it is a totally different design so they are not interchangeable
