What makes DFS great is the way that makers and users get to interact freely unlike other forums with restrictive vendor policies. Having access to vendors separates DFS from everywhere else. We are an integral part of DFS and I think if DFS values that and values the innovation we bring to the community then it will do what it can to protect us from theft so we’ll still be around to contribute here. If not, then there becomes a point where we’re contributing to DFS with both money and content and helping it grow and be an engaging community while the forum itself is allowing thieves to undermine the very businesses that make DFS the great and engaging place it is. That becomes a place I no longer wish to support and imagine all the other vendors getting ripped off feel similarly.

Respectfully that is a 2 edge sword. What you bring to DFS is beneficial and what DFS brings to you is beneficial and not available elsewhere. I understand your frustration as best I can looking in from outside but threatening doesn't seem a good approach to a forum that brings you value. JMHO I already said I wasn't interested in their copy and I'll sit this out now......

That is correct. Unfortunately there is little that can be done legally to stop it. However, if I were an artisan I would merely stress the facts that our product is U.S. made and to (probably) better specs.

Let the buyers decide where to spend their $$ before we start threatening embargos, tariffs & everything short of thermonuclear war.  

After all, if the intended purchasers are unable to distinguish the differences then it's already a lost cause.

Censorship is an ugly thing that leads to totalitarianism. If I want to see that in action I'll visit social media or view Mainstream media.

You know what’s an ugly thing? Having your hard work stolen from you so it can be produced in a country that artificially deflates its own currency to keep its labor cheap. And every post showing these knock-offs is propping up the practice. This has happened to a lot of makers this year and I’m sick of it. The community will suffer if we continue to allow this to persist.

By the way, I also find it strange to be so concerned with censorship, but not idea theft. Propping up those who make money off the hard work of others and then shrugging when asked to protect those getting ripped off because of “censorship”. Silly.

You’re correct. I love being here and I get a lot of value both personally and professionally from being here. This is a wonderful place and I’m grateful to Andrew and the DFS team for creating a space like this. I wouldn’t be here every single day if I didn’t find immense value here. But this simply threatens that value proposition. That’s all. At a deeper level, I think if the community wants to continue to see cool innovative products then we as a group need to address this. I’ve spoken to other makers who feel less interested in making new products because it’ll be knocked off. We as a community can control this and forum management can have a particularly strong impact in protecting the makers of our community.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that others forfeit their right to know. Are we to shutter every Walmart & Harbor Freight store in the country because they sell cheap Chinese "knock offs"? There are plusses & minuses of having a capitalist market as this shows. As there is no better system there is no easy answer for you. Just don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

I don't have the power to do anything here. My only power is to spend my time, money, and efforts where I feel they are valued. I currently spend all three here.

I will never buy anything like this made in China because I don't want any of my money to go to the Chinese military.
