Great point! I’ll go on the record here and say if my wife is selling a used soap....I’m all in!

Otherwise.....I’ll gladly and happily spend a few extra bucks for a new one...#FeelingAffluent

Excellent, which is why I stated there's no right or wrong to this.  There are simply different comfort levels out there, frenchy, but I am really pleased that your wife is an exception. Winking

I think you have absolutely nothing to lose by either doing a PIF or putting them on the B/S/T with full disclosure and asking price.  The worst that can happen is you'll get no takers and the best is you might make someone happy.

I share a bar of body soap with my wife. I share lots of other things with my wife and don't find that similar to using someone else's shaving soap who I don't know. And the toothpaste example doesn't correlate either. When I put toothpaste on my brush, the toothpaste that is left in the tube does not come into contact with the bristles of my brush. But even with that knowledge, I'm not going to buy a used tube of toothpaste from someone. It's so cheap, as is shaving soap, that I don't see that I'm saving all that much from buying used soap. You are entirely correct that there is no right or wrong answer here. And just because I have no plans to buy someone's used soap, there is certainly nothing wrong with putting some soaps that I don't like up for sale since there are people who don't have a problem with using used soaps. It's our differences that make the world go 'round. Just think how boring the world would be if we all thought alike. I know, there probably wouldn't be any wars or killing. But there sure would be a lot of boredom.

I prefer new, but if it's unobtanium...well, I might make an exception. ( I have)

Yea, I'll take 'em. I just getting started and bought what little I got used. I heard a guy say he would wash off the soap with a bit of boiling water first.

I've bought used shave soaps on the B/S/T and never had any issues.

An interesting thread that appears on many forums. We're not going to change anyone's mind with logic because the argument against used soap isn't (to me) logical. You can wash away germs but you can't wash away the heebie-jeebies. Soap and warm water is used to clean and disinfect almost everything from eating utensils to medical equipment. So lets call shaving soap soap #1. Now if I need to disinfect it, let's say I use soap #2 (but it could be anything). So if I buy soap #2 used, do I need soap #3 to clean the cleaner before I clean the soap? How about #4?

I like the high end Italian creams which are expensive if bought at retail in the US, but sometimes they come up at reasonable prices on the BST. I'll not hesitate for a good deal on AdP, ABC, I Coloniali, or SMN.

Cheers, Steve

I buy used soap, yes.

perhaps churchilllafemme can chime in. I think he used to work in infectious diseases or dermatology before retiring if I remember correctly...

Actually, I was an immunology specialist, but I did take care of HIV patients and learned about infection risks. I use soaps that I have bought used, but just to be safe I use a knife or razor blade to scrape off a top thin surface and discard it, then let the soap sit out open to room air to dry thoroughly for a few days before starting to use it. Some viruses and bacteria can survive for up to a few days on soaps.
