Wolfman WR2 Head Discussion

So I had my first shave with the WR1 SS .61 DC and I wanted to see if the magic that I remembered from shaving with my old WR1 61 DC would still be there and sadly it wasn’t and realized that I need a more efficient razor which is what I normally use. Don’t get me wrong with a fresh Feather blade in it I got a two pass DFS out of it but I have so many razors that can deliver a solid BBS in two passes and a couple are even smoother face feel wise. So looks like this razor is going to be leaving my den after only one shave and I’ll stick with my WR1.94 DC and  2 WR2 Titanium DC’s in 125/135 1.45/1.55.  So I guess it proves that memories are not always accurate.

OK, need correct the record.

Have been questioning why anybody having irritation issues when progressing up chain from WR2 0,95 to 1,15 would even bother trying a 1,55 or, God forbid a 1,65.

For sake of argument tried a 1,65 SB SS expecting to not even complete half a face before declaring it a disaster.

Used the normal ETHOS preshave, soap, hyaluronic acid, skin food regimen as well as a new Med Prep blade so essentially everything held constant.

Admittedly, being as attentive as if shaving with a straight (given the gap, not far off, eh?), had a perfect 2 pass BBS that lasted a solid 3 days (maybe last day was DFS).

Conclusion: even those with highly angular, disfigured faces and highly sensative skin can use a 1,65 if the skin properly prepped and focused on the razor as though handling a loaded firearm. Truth told, this the only WR2 gap would consider buying and even then only as a twice a week razor - but no more usage required for my beard.

Apologies to all the proponents. It makes no sense to me BUT it works - in the end all that matters. Perspective is this effectively a straight edge without the required maintenance (a good thing).

I agree with Dan, proper skin prep and high-quality soap, whipped to the the optimum consistency, are essential. I’m also finding blade selection to be very important... For me, the WR2 1.55 is a completely different razor when loaded with a Feather blade as opposed to an Astra SP or German Wilkinson Sword.

A friend was kind enough to loan my his 1.55 and I found it was great. Now I have a SS .155 SB and love the thing. I experimented and shaved with it 5 days in a row. My prep is washing my face/neck in hot tap water/soap, and lather up and shave. 

Two passes, a WTG/ATG and done. I haven't tried a .165, and I have no desire to. I feel like it would be 'gilding the lily.' As Dan said, you are darn near shaving with a straight even with a .155. I don't know how high the gap can go, but .155 is gap enough for me. 

Good morning!  Trying to figure out the right handle to get.  For some reason, I just can't seem to get into the Darwin.  The WHR7 looks the most stunning to me.  Any feedback on its ergonomics?  Is there another handle type people seem to really enjoy using?  (It's a shame I can only order one!)

I also found the WHR7 'stunning'. i always felt it is the most beautiful of all of them, with the possible exception of the Darwin. 

From a practical standpoint the WRH1/WRH2 are great because of the knurling. Non slip.

The WRH3 is very cool, but the smooth section is slippery, as is the WRH7.

I have all of the above and the 7 was the last I scored. TBH I was disappointed to begin with. 

I worked at it and finally 'learned' how to use the 7 without the smooth portion being a problem. My 2 cents.

Hands down the 7XL hollow for me. It balances the WR2 head so well and it fits like a glove in my hand. At least it does for me. The WRH1 and WRH3/7 are also my favorites.

This rocks.  Thanks, man, this is the discussion I was a hoping for.  The WRH1 looks like it is the most functional of the bunch, just was you said.  Any wisdom on how to best use the WRH7?  if you could pick only one, would you pick the WRH1 or WRH7?

Is the XL size the key factor to make it more usable?

I think you need to decide if you want a heavy handle or a hollow one first. I was unsure about the Darwin but it works great for me but I do prefer lighter handles. My WRH2 is a nice handle but too heavy for me, I'd like to order a hollow version when I get the chance.
