Mogaert, i would suggest going 0,95 with option to shim to effective 1,05 for everyday growth.  It is fine indeed that many prefer high gaps in the WR2 but based on your post, you would be best advised to abide by your experience with the razor on your face using your preferred blade and technique. Of course, life is full of contingencies and so your situation may change with time but for now be true to yourself.

As concerns a WR1, having owned many, can absolutely assure you if finding the WR2 in 1,25 too much for daily use, will absolutely hate a 0,86 gap in a WR1.  Strongly recommending you turn your sights to a 0,67 there, maybe even a 0,61 with shimming to get it “just right”.

If you have to have a Wolfman the WR1 0.74 has been a favorite of mine ever since I got it some years ago. Even though I've got a few higher gaps in WR1 & 2 I still grab the 0.74 and enjoy the smoothness and efficiency.

If you don't have to have a Wolfman I'd recommend a SS Charcoal Goods Lv 2. Another very efficient shaver that is smooth as silk ... if you use the right blade  Smile

I would suggest riding high with your 1.25 Wr2, lift the handle and shave riding the cap, this will replicate the smaller gapped wr2's.
I have no doubt if you conquer the various shave angles the Wr2 provides you shall be rewarded in Spades,
Just my take.....YMMV...... Cool

I'm on the waiting list, but am trying to figure out what (if anything) I should get. If I'm going to spend the money on a Wolfman, I'd want to find something that would serve as a daily driver. (Why spend that kind of money and not maximize its use.). I have and love a copper Charcoal Goods Lv 2. At this point, I'd say it's pretty close to what works best for me. I'd love to find something that is just as efficient (or maybe a touch more) but without any more blade feel. Any suggestions as to what I should be looking for when my number comes up?

Bob, my take would be something between 1,05 and 1,15 based on the CG Lvl 2 preference, certainly no higher than 1,25. REM, one can always shim up a gap but not down....

I think if you like more blade feel then the wr1 is a great head. I would ABSOLUTELY avoid a .86 wr1 based on the info you shared. Like, stay away is my recommendation

I have moved 95% exclusively to straight razors and haven’t used a de since aug last year, I think. I have sold all but 2 wolfman razors and those are polished ti 1.05 and 1.15

For me the 1.15 is my preferred razor but I cannot use it more than a couple days in a row without getting some irritation.

If I could only keep one razor I would choose the 1.05 as I can use it every single day for 60 days and get a BBS, irritation free shave with it.

In your case with the examples you provided I would say this: the 1.05 is a hair more efficient than level 2 CG but even smoother.

Nothing else comes close.
Like...pointing at the floor steep...

What blade you run?
Yes, and for most DEs I use a shallow angle, for example on the blackbird or the NEWs.

I have used a polsilver, voskod, personna red and nacet. The nacet is by far the best fit.

Personal first that a DE really responds that much to a particular blade.

You guys should try a Timor, especially corked - outstanding in the Wolfman. Nacet is a strong second place blade from my experience and face/beard characteristics

I thought you were dogging the Nacets in the other thread Dan  Big Grin Maybe I wasn't understanding but today I held off on the Timor and shaved with the Nacet.

This thread is awesome, seeing everyone really dialing in what their preference is. Hopefully everyone gets a suitable razor for themselves.

No actually like Nacets in some razors (really all duFour razors (except BBS1 IIRC), Tataras, H&S, Timeless&c&c)) just as like Timors in some (literally ALL duFour razors) and Astra SP in some&c&c&c.  Will state that short of Feathers which are not preferred, Nacets are the shortest life blades ever used but really quite good over that short life while being inexpensive.
