Does a BBS-1 offer the same shave or is it different - more mild?

It's not the same (although the end result can be BBS in both cases), I might be a minority but I preferred the Wolfman above the BBS-1. It was to angle specific and needed some pressure to obtain maximum result.

Yup, completely different shaves. Someone I know on Facebook got the BBS-1 and after two shaves he sold it. Then he got a Wolfman and it became his grail, the best shaver on earth. It was funny talking to him because I had the opposite experience. BBS-1 was the smoothest shaver, no problems, easy to dial in the angle, flawless. I could never get that great of a shave with the standard gap wolfman. However, we'll see because I opted for a reduced gap and it is on the way now.

I would love to try a wolfman even though I only use SE's. The problem is I am 64 years old and by the time I would get it in 22 years, I will be too old to use it.

I think there are two aspects to the Wolfman razors: The performance and the craftsmanship.

As far as performance, they are the best of the 100 or so razors I have. I get superb shaves with the OC, SB and DC (my least favorite) in both the standard .61 and .74 gaps. 95% of the time, I use a Feather, once in a while, a Polsilver just to remind myself how much I appreciate the Feathers.

The balance with any of the handles is superb. For looks, I like the Darwin and the WRH7, but the 'plain' WRH1 is just excellent.

Then there's the craftsmanship. This is a razor I enjoy owning because, while there are many excellent razors out there, the Wolfman is crafted just a bit better. Timeless? Great. Weber? Smooth. Gillette British Rocket? Mild. But for overall craftsmanship, the Wolfman is just a bit better.

When I put together the performance of the WRs and the feel in the hand, and the appreciation of the care with which they've been crafted, they are my favorite razors without hesitation. I do use other razors, like my SEs, my vintages, other good DEs. But when I come back to a Wolfman, pop in a new Feather, it's the standard against which all others are compared.

I agree that the craftsmanship of the Wolfman is unmatched (except perhaps for the Charcoal Goods machined brass, which is in another category in my book).

On my face, I need an aggressive razor. My Wolfman, which has the .74mm blade gap, is fairly efficient, but I've got several that give me closer shaves, e.g., the ATT H2, PAA DOC Evolution, Charcoal Goods Level 3 and R41 2011. Thus, for me, I find the performance of some others better than the Wolfman. Would I ever part with it? Nope.
