Wolfman Razors Price Increase?

I equate this to this simple analogy:

 It's the Honda Civic versus the BMW.  The Honda civic will get you from point A to Point B just as the BMW will.  It might not look as pretty as the BMW and it won't turn heads, but you will arrive at your destination safely, and effectively.  There are many people who can't afford a BMW so they drive the Honda.  There are some people who could readily buy a BMW but thinks it's asinine when they can get a car for half the sticker price of the BMW and travel just fine and enjoyably.  There are people who believe driving a BMW means they have the greatest car on the planet so they drive one; hell be damned all other cars.  Finally, there are people who drive a BMW because they would never be seen in a "common man's car". 

I'd rather have three Honda's in my garage than one BMW.  That's just me.

I often share your sentiment, but if I could only have one razor in my den it would probably be the Wolfman or LASS BBS-1, rather than three other razors.  So many razors work so well- old Gillettes, Parkers, EJs, Webers etc.- that a lot of the satisfaction in using a top tier razor is aesthetic. I can get a great shave from a $10 Gillette NEW Short Comb.

The day may come when I only have the one (or two) razor in the den... less maintenance.  I mean really, three oil changes, three insurance premiums, 12 tires......

I guess the questions is why would you need three Honda's if you are the only one driving?  I get that the Wolfman's are expensive but still really no worse than the ATT cause you have to remember he charges in Canadian dollars, which alot of folks seem to not take into account.  Anyway, another thing to consider is if you already have a Maggard stainless steel handle or an iKon one or any other handle, you can save some money just by getting the head set.

I use the Dual comb Wolfman alot and find it to be the best, smoothest and most efficient razor out there, even when compared to the ATT's and I had all the plates except the S2.  I know that YMMV but one shouldn't rule it out just because it costs more or that you can have say 3-4 vintage Gillette's and maybe a Merkur or two in the house for what one Wolfman cost.  Is that really a good thing if none of them give you the best shave possible?  Just one man's opinion!

There are also people who appreciate the craftsmanship and performance of a BMW. I think that's what's missing in your analogy.

Having personally gone from a Nissan Altima to a BMW 525i, I can assure you that getting from A to B in the BMW was a hell of a lot more enjoyable.

But it's a false equivalency. BMW's production capacity is probably hundreds of thousands if not millions of times what James is capable of making. They're a multi-billion dollar global corporation. He's a one-man shop who's finishing his product by hand. To put it as you have implies that he simply doesn't WANT to make any more because it's an inconvenience rather than the fact that he literally CAN'T make them fast enough.

It's an interesting scenario. Demand is so high that the price must be increased to limit the ability to purchase the product? Is that what I'm to understand?

I still haven't advanced beyond my two razors (Merkur 34C which was my starter, and a Maggard MR5 which was a gift). I'm aiming to save up for a Shavecraft 101, as I have heard nothing by great things about them. I can't see myself ever buying a Wolfman at this price point, though. Even if I did have the money to buy one, I still wouldn't. I'd rather purchase a bunch of soaps and aftershaves than a single razor, particularly if I've found one that works perfectly for myself.

This is just my opinion, of course.
