I never particularly wanted to try Williams, despite its availability in the grocery store for around $2. In the light of the news, however, I ended up picking one up for posterity's sake. Whether I actually put a brush to it is a whole different story. It's kind of like when they discontinued the Ford Escort.

I also agree with this soap was not very good for shaving, but have any of you guys ever tried showering with the stuff?  I really like the way that it smells when showering with it.

Well... one of the oldest shaving soaps still produced in the USA... along with Col. Conk and VdH.
Sad to see it go away, but I'll certainly will not miss it very much. Performance-wise, it was a poor shaving soap.

andrewjs18 - Now they are saying that they cannot speak to whether or not it is going to be discontinued but that it is in limited distribution. Who the heck knows? They are telling people different things when they email them.

I certainly won't be sad to see it go, personally. Tongue

It's funny Andrew, the lady who responded to the gentleman last week and said it was not going to be discontinued was the same one who told me it was. TamaraSmile  In fact, three other people got the same email I did from 'Tamara' then the other fellow got a different one last week.

I used Williams Mug Soap for the first time this morning, wanted to try it before it was too late.
It did NOT go well! I used a boar brush to face lather. Does anyone know if synthetic or badger will be better to use with Williams?
I want to make it work, need help!
I won't give up, I'll look for how to videos on Williams Mug Soap on YouTube and try again in a few days.

I use it and like it, no problems getting a great lather with it. I've started to stock pile this soap cuz when it's gone a lot of people will be bummed. I will just continue to get great shaves.

Hi. I used Williams for the first time again in over 20 years and enjoyed the shave. First you need to bloom the soap or you won't have a chance of a good shave. Then load the soap the same as I do every other soap for 60 seconds. Then I face lather and add a little water as I go until I find the right consistency and then paint it on. I rinse my face between passes and the soap has never faded or dissipated on me between a 3 pass shave. I find it does have slickness and cushion and does an overall respectable job.
It is in no way comparable to a $25 artisan soap but it is a good go to mug soap. Just my 2 cents.

Thank You sonnyrsg
I used Williams Mug Soap for the second time on Saturday, followed your instructions and got much better results! It took some work so I guess I'll keep it a weekend thing till I get better at it.
