Dragonsbeard never interrupt your competition when they are making a mistake.  If that is how Lothur wants to be marketed… step aside and watch.

I would have never thought of that.. I was just trying to help a friend ( Jason ) before it hurts his business. I did mention that my opinion on the scent to the joke connection didn’t make sense to me but as a hobbyist not a competitor. They have their lane and I have mine. I try to stay in mine but thanks for the advice Mike.

I'm with Frank here. While some soapers do have a less than friendly attitude towards others, to my eye it seems exceedingly rare. Most, I feel, act more like a brotherhood. We have a rare and wonderful group in this hobby... Kinda gives you hope for mankind, lol.

That said, I'm not a fan at all of the scent description (which I stated before). I think it's crass and will do a lot more to hurt business than help. I hope Jason (who is a wonderful guy, fwiw) heeds Frank's suggestion and alters it. As this is a collaboration, he'll be hurt by the negative impact, too.

I don't know the folks at Lothur. I hope they are nice people. I imagine anyone who named a soap Dave, has to have their finger on the pulse. If you folks haven't noticed, there's a lot of Dave's in this niche hobby. At one point I wondered if I needed to change my name to fit in. Hmm, too bad it wasn't Bruce... A Monty Python joke would fit in so well here. But I digress.

Happy Saturday folks!

UPDATE:

I just got off the phone with Jason and he was not happy about this and was completely unaware of the Joke part of this collab.. As soon as I told him he immediately took it down and I mentioned the YouTube Video as well and he's going to delete that as well. He was not happy and he said for me to express his apologies for not catching the whole Joke thing.  He also added that he's been extremely busy and didn't have any eyes on what was going on. I had a feeling that this is what happened. He and I have spent many hours on the phone not only talking shaving but life and a whole lot of other subjects. I call him a square guy who's a hard worker and a good family man and I didn't think that he would have gone for this if he knew about the joke part. He also said if anyone has any issues with any product ever to get in touch with him and he will take care of things.

Hopefully this whole joke thing will not affect your opinion of him or his company.

I'm kind of late to this one. What was it some bet between a couple of guys or something silly like that?
I'd say good job on that phone call Frank Dragonsbeard, way to look out for friends.

To all commenting on this. It’s a joke. As in something to chuckle at. Really not that serious. Also the reason I use jokes is because almost all fragrance descriptions are contrived and pretentious so it’s more fun to have a laugh. Obviously this was lost on you guys.

LothurLtd  maybe it wasn't the best joke for that spot , maybe it was.

If you knew some of the friends I've had and lost now and their jokes you would know that I'm not offended at all.

I only read it secondhanded but no biggie, cool here.

Maybe that information will come in handy before I get my septic system fixed. Joking

LothurLtd I love comedy and consume it every week. Not all types of comedy are for everyone. In this case I just honestly didn't find the joke funny. But in a video I posted of a review, the reviewer chuckled and made reference to some of the collaborators. So I just assumed it was an inside joke/reference.

I feel like a lot of the sentiment above is more along the lines of: With the hundreds of thousands of jokes in the public domain and the hundreds of thousands of hours of live comedy, it just seemed like a bit of an unusual marketing strategy to pick human excrement as the punch line for a joke soap scent description, especially if you were trying to appeal to the broadest audience possible. But maybe I took the material too literal and that the punch line reference for taking a dump was referring to something else.

In any case just thought it could be helpful to hear another viewpoint on the reaction.

All the best.
