Haven't used a single badger/boar brush since I started using my synthetics...there simply isn't a need to, imho.

for how cheap they are, it's definitely worth giving modern synthetics a try.

Agreed. My new Maggard 24mm synthetic is a good use of the Plisson-style knot (less floppy than the Plisson) and is a lovely brush to use. It costs $12. It's now the first brush I recommend to my new-to-wet-shaving friends.
