Why the Plisson Synthetic stinks!

I still prefer my actual Plisson brushes over any of the Plisson-esque knots. Where the difference comes in for me is in the knot construction. To my knowledge, the Plisson knots are hand tied while the others are glued. I still enjoy my Plisson-esque knots, but they are still a step below the real thing.

I wonder if anyone has one extracted to show the difference? So are they hand tied like Shavemac with the glue and a piece of string that is knotted etc?

I honestly cannot tell a difference in the quality of the knots between the Plisson from France and the Stirling Kong but I haven't tried any other Plisson type knots, only Ubersoft. I suppose it might have to do with which Plisson-esque knot you have tried since the companies selling them are likely buying them from different suppliers. The fibers should be identical but how they are tied could indeed be the difference. I have 22mm, 24mm, and 30mm Plisson knots on the way which I look forward to comparing.

I haven't tried either of those so I can't comment on them. I compared the Stirling and Plisson very closely and tested them and the only noticeable difference to me was that the Stirling has more backbone and loaded and lathered better. The Plisson is just too small for me but it's a great brush nonetheless. Hopefully they will offer larger sizes some day but I won't hold my breath. Hopefully the three I have on the way turn out to be as nice as the Stirling Kong. I bought them factory direct so not sure if anyone else sells those exact knots or not.

The Plisson knot is plenty big for me with how well it splays. I did the whole large brush not much splay thing & found that I'm a splayer. Nothing splays like a true Plisson.

I love the spay of the Plisson and the Kong splays just like it but with a bit more backbone. There are two different shapes of Plisson-esque knots, the hybrid/fan type and the bulb. The Stirling Kong has the bulb just like the Plisson which happens to splay really easy. There are many different size knots and loft heights for Plisson-esque knots, thus when people say a knot is Plisson type they likely mean the fibers are the same. If someone wants an exact Plisson then they should buy the original like you have done. I had the real Plisson and while I enjoyed it very much I prefer a 24 to 26mm knot size.
