Use a variety of alcohol/nonalcohol based aftershave splashes followed by balms due to very sensative skin. Strongly prefer nonalcohol splashes as burn is very strong but nonetheless get good results with both. As far as brands, runs gamut from inexpensive (PAA, Fine, Meissner) to quite expensive (Czech & Speake, Penhaligon, AdP).

Splash. Alcohol or otherwise. If I Irritate my face, I will switch to a balm. But try to keep it to a minimum. Just turns my face into a greasy mess. Alcohol dries me out just fine.

They say alcohol is drying on the skin but I swear that alcohol based splashed give me a much better skin feel than non-alc. I may finish with a balm or moisturiser if particularly cold or dry skin, but the splash is usually enough.

Alcohol based with menthol when possible.

Alcohol based. Been using them since I started shaving at 14. No issues

I use both kinds as well, but I think I end up using alcohol-based 75% of the time. It seems like with alcohol, your experience with it is highly personal and depends on skin type. I love a good burn after the shave but I can see how it’s not for everyone.

I notice less redness in my problem areas shortly after the shave with an alcohol-based splash as well (not that I get a whole lot of that anyway). I’ve heard that this has to do with the alcohol effectively “disinfecting” the area, though I don’t know the validity of that claim.

I prefer alcohol based, but lately I've noticed that they've been really drying my skin out. Sometimes I'll add a couple drops of glycerin to try and counteract the drying. I never really use balms, but lately I've been enjoying Chatillon Lux's salve. It's a little greasy feeling at first but makes your skin feel nice for the rest of the day.

I personally use Alcohol and Non-Alcohol based products, makes no difference. But I will always use an astringent, whether Humphreys Alcoholado Maravilla or Thayers Medicated. So, for me it’s an astringent, toner (Rose Water), Nivea and then an aftershave splash with some more skin conditioning properties to finish it off. I don’t use all of the products in the pic below at once, just 2 - 3 in any combo for a particular shave........

I use both alcohol and non-alcohol after-shave products. I like Speick aftershave followed by Nivea balm, or Fine Clean Vetiver followed by Proraso balm.
I also like Myrsol Agua Balsamica followed by MG-5 Skin Conditioner (a Japanese product, which smells of lime and basil).

I like the alcohol-based ones just for the burn they leave my skin feeling good and I like the smell of pinald vanilla as does she. It's winter in Minnesota so I also use some Nivea After Shave balm. I noticed the witch-hazel I bought the other day says 14% grain alcohol I haven't tried it but once it has no fragrance I didn't like it.
