Mike’s Bay Rum (Mike’s Natural Soaps) bay & bergamot
Shave 21 ・ 90 g left ・ $0.76 / shave

The scent is showing its age. The bergamot has flown the coop. What lingers is spicy bay and a shy hint of vanilla. But no matter. I don't pick Mike’s soaps for their poetry; I pick them for their performance.

Following the ancient wisdom of Merkur Man, I swirled my brush on the puck like a prospector panning for gold. Soap piled on, heavy and thick. Then came the water, agitation, water again – a dozen journeys to the tap, each one building the cream until the puck was covered by a glossy heap of lather that was thick enough to stop time. The shave? A dream. The Vector’s sharp Kai blade was lost in the lather. I felt like I was shaving with a butter knife. And after the scraping, the Cat o’ Nine Tails only purred and gave me a warm embrace.

Tried something new today. Talent Soap is not a maker I am familiar with but my son bought a bunch for free samples with shaving brush sales and brought a tub over for me to try.  I was surprised! Easy lather, great feel on my cheeks, super slick.  It shaved great.  Rinse off is more difficult than most but I sort of like that. Scent is light-medium and it stays that way. The scent is summery and reminds me of some other soap I’ve used but can’t recall. I guess it’s probably a commercially available scent they used that some other soaper did too.  At any rate it’s a very descent soap but Saharan dry after I let things rest for an hour.  Will I be buying? Well, with my closet full of soap, nope.  Was fun though.

So what do you do to help combat the bone chilling weather going on now?  Well I just closed my eyes and dreamed up a nice warm early June morning.  There's a slight breeze that brings the scent of the honeysuckle that's in full bloom near my home and just enjoy the fragrance of nature.  Then I pull out Frank's excellent Honeysuckle to enforce that image that I created in my mind.
Thanks for the spring ride!
