What's the deal with Haslinger?

After 5 shaves with Haslinger Coconut, I have PIF'd this soap. Not enough protection; not nearly enough slickness; and the worst of all (for my face), it irritated the heck out of it. I'm done with this product. Not recommended. YMMV, yada, yada, yada.

I have been wet shaving for 25 years to date starting after I inherited all my father's Somerset Simpsons at 20 years of age. Present day Haslinger soaps are some of the finest I have ever used and I have used all the great one's. I rank them on par with all Genoa made Valobra triple milled soaps (AOS tallow/Czech & Speake).

I feel the exact same way, as the above poster, about the Pannacrema Nuavia Blu & Rossa. Good product in line with other Italian style croaps but I would not recommend it unless one wants an expensive croc.

It's harder to defend a world class soap that costs $4.50 when it's sitting next to a $62 croap in a pretty ceramic jug for some people. I've seen this pattern for years now.

Perfect example of "opinion vs. fact" grim feels Tabac stinks, well that's his opinion of the product, but doesn't make it a fact.  I like Tabac and I like the scent, and that's also my opinion.

Me too--although I don't put it in my top tier--(Nuavia,xpec,esjberg,sdm) it is a great,great soap.

One thing I have learned about Tabac is when you are familiar with different scents and how to mix them up, you can tame Tabac with a nice AS. I agree the scent can polarizing, but to me it doesn't "stink" :-)

And opinions That's why sometimes I just leave and don't miss it one bit. First I hate to get in arguments with people I don't know and second I don't like to be lecture by the same people I don't know.

As to expensive vs. inexpensive, I guess I don't worry about those things. I buy what I want be a $4.50 soap or a $62.00 soap, is not about defending, at least I don't feel I have to defend a thing or justify my likings. I'm not here to please anybody but myself. I love my Tabac and Palmolive as much as I love my Nuavia and my SMN, to name a few.

I don't care for recommendations or care about recommending anything. I share my useless opinion and I read opinions, but I don't buy because somebody told me to or due to someone's opinion.

Maybe is that I just don't take things too serious as it is something I do as part of my lifestyle and nothing more.

Yes, but unlike some, I don't try to push them as gospel, I share them and that's it.  Some people around here think they are some type of shaving God and if one don't agree with their views, then we don't know a thing.

Hey, you don't have to read them if they bother you so much, there is such a thing as the ignore list.

The key things you wrote above was "I'm not overly impressed by MdC as far as performance vs price. " and "going strictly by performance"

First, I can't go strictly by performance. If something stinks, it stinks.  and Tabac, to me, stinks.

Second, I wasn't comparing "value" for dollars spent. If that were the case, I would buy nothing but MW. For Tabac, I understand why Perfumania is giving it away today (with their newsletter rebate).

I do agree with having four tiers.  Actually, I have five which I am going to write up one day and I place Haslinger in the third Tier, which is "stuff good enough to use but I'm not buying it again" Interestingly enough, I have not tried Cade, although I can drive to a local Mall and just buy it compared to MdC, which requires an Act of Congress to get (well a wait time).

Makes sense if you are one that scent is make or break for then that would certainly be a deal breaker for you, and I imagine Arko might be another where that would be an issue. I certainly don't go strictly by value per performance but when MdC cost me over $100CDN to finally get (after exchange and duty that I got nailed on) then it becomes part of my buying decision. I like it very much, especially the scent, but even on performance alone it didn't find it's way into my top 5 , which are Valobra, Klar Seinfen, SV,Cade, and Stirling (tie for 5th). Although it would be about 6th on my list tied with CB.

I likely also won't be buying PannaCrema Nuavia for the same reason that it's going to be too expensive to justify something that probably won't be any better than MdC, but I said I wasn't going to buy MdC lol.

YMMV indeed---I have been wet-shaving for more than 25 years and to me,with the latest creams and soaps coming out,the top tier soaps for the most part are far,far,superior to the like of Haslingers, MW,CWSR etc....--to me,you get what you pay for---However I agree totally with Hector about everyone being a "shaving god". I try to help newbies and the like, often PIFing or cheaply selling my stuff on B/S/T's but I have seen all the "experts" on all the boards and it makes me laugh.-YMMV

I have to admit I am very surprised with your results. However, if something left my face irritated I'd never use it again either.

Except it doesn't cost $4.50. I got it off Amazon for $5.67 oz. I understand now you can buy it in bulk from some overseas store - not interested. Regardless, the cost is deceiving. At that price it better be gold, or at least silver. I believe the small size lets you "think" you are getting something cheap but its not.

And the crock thing I agree with although the owner just said he will never sell refills (or something to that effect) - in which case too bad. I refuse to buy, for example, some $115 for a Boellis Panama crock when the refill is $48. IMO, that is just ridiculous.

And that's cool. Scent is personal and 30% of the scent receptors in humans are different.

The worst ones I've found not only stink but the color of the basin water is a dark, sewage looking color   I view it as a journey - a nice drive through the country side, a warm day, sun out, wind in your face - then you drive by a sewage plant.

If it makes lather like this you can keep it, lol....
