You say it's a "good soap, not great....the peformance is similar to Valobra, C&C, Tabac".

So is your ranking of good, mostly because of the weak scent or are the other compatible soaps listed also only good in terms of your performance scale?

Scents play a huge part in rating for some, which I fully understand.  Just looking to see how you rate those other 3 in terms of performance as they are three highly regarded soaps by a wide range of members.
Agreed. I read that and thought "Time for me to get some Haslinger!" Valobra is one of my very few never without soaps. Will always have a backup, Fougere for me and I would personally consider that high praise!

That's an alley I park in often. The scents are soft and gentle. Some would say the same about Czech & Speake, AOS tallow, and Valobra. They are made that way. If one is used to heavily scented artisans an adjustment is necessary. I personally prefer this approach by these factory made soaps. Great stuff.

I just tried the Sandalwood last week and found it to be slightly below the performance of Valobra, which is my favourite of the more than 100 soaps and creams I've tried. I would put it in the same category as Klar Seinfen, SV, Tabac, MdC and similar top tier soaps. Not much of a scent but I'm not too fussy on that, it's just a nice to have in my books. I'm going to experiment more with it soon to see where it really ranks but I'm certainly glad I grabbed a puck.

That so interesting. As the OP, I wouldnt use the words Tabac and MdC in the same sentence nm call it Top Tier.

Dodgy I guess its all subjective.

After 5 shaves with Haslinger Coconut, I have PIF'd this soap. Not enough protection; not nearly enough slickness; and the worst of all (for my face), it irritated the heck out of it. I'm done with this product. Not recommended. YMMV, yada, yada, yada. Wink

Hmm, quote didn't seem to work, but this is in response to grim

It's definitely all subjective and it depends what your definitions are, going strictly by performance, and this is just my view of the soaps, I find that MdC and Tabac both have very similar performance in terms of slickness and cushion. I would put MdC above for postshave face feel and scent but I'm not overly impressed by MdC as far as performance vs price. Where would you place Tabac and MdC in terms of performance? I would also put Cade and PdP in that tier as well, where as I would put most artisan soaps in second tier along with such products as TOBS cream and soap. I basically have four tiers that I place soaps and creams: Top performers, good performers, average performers, and trash bin just for reference.

The key things you wrote above was "I'm not overly impressed by MdC as far as performance vs price. " and "going strictly by performance"

First, I can't go strictly by performance. If something stinks, it stinks. Wink  and Tabac, to me, stinks.

Second, I wasn't comparing "value" for dollars spent. If that were the case, I would buy nothing but MW. For Tabac, I understand why Perfumania is giving it away today (with their newsletter rebate).

I do agree with having four tiers.  Actually, I have five which I am going to write up one day and I place Haslinger in the third Tier, which is "stuff good enough to use but I'm not buying it again" Interestingly enough, I have not tried Cade, although I can drive to a local Mall and just buy it compared to MdC, which requires an Act of Congress to get (well a wait time).

Perfect example of "opinion vs. fact" grim feels Tabac stinks, well that's his opinion of the product, but doesn't make it a fact. I like Tabac and I like the scent, and that's also my opinion.

Me too--although I don't put it in my top tier--(Nuavia,xpec,esjberg,sdm) it is a great, great soap.
