The only soaps that irritate my face mid-shave are ones with some kind of Lime scent, UNLESS it's more of a candy-flavour Lime, like Col. Conk's Lime Shaving Soap, or Truefitt & Hill West Indian Limes soap. Those two are okay.
Some soaps that are heavy in Bergamot give me slight irritation, but I like the scent enough to put up with it.

The absolute worst soap-connected pain I ever experienced was when I decided to try face-lathering using a Pears transparent glycerine bath bar like a stick soap. I figured that glycerine should be good for shaving with, right?

Yeow! Half-way through the first pass, I had to abort the project and apply a balm.
Never try that with Pears.
Bear in mind that Pears has a really weird and strong scent. Makes me think of turpentine.

What is the differing ingredient that I must be allergic to in Vegan based soaps?  I don't think it is the fragrance because over four different fragrances I get the same burn....   I'd like to figure it out so I can avoid this problem.

Thank you for any insight!

In our soaps, our tallow soap and vegetable soap are virtually identical. In our vegetable soaps, cocoa butter replaces the beef tallow. We never get irritation reports.

To OP - could it possibly be lanolin? Some guys report lanolin as  problem, though not frequently. Then again, it's a matter of what is irrtating YOU, not other guys.

I believe it is the other way around.  Tallow soap contain beef tallow which is a rendered beef fat.  Vegan soaps do not.  I prefer tallow soaps because of there performance.

I understand you since I also get the same irritation with ANY vegan soap. I call it the "Dryness Irritation" which feels horrible for us with super dry skin. The one ingredient that does wonders overall is Lanolin, it really combats the dryness irritation in 95% of the cases. Thus why I don't even try many soaps without lanolin.
