I see "PIF" or "PIFING" mentioned in a bunch of other posts. I assume it is related to selling/trading/giving away part of someone's shaving products collection but I don't know how it works.

paying it forward.

I always assumed it means giving away something to someone with the hope that the receiver 'does the similar favor' to someone else in future.

I also try to remember not to trade/sell stuff I get in a PIF. When I PIF something I hope the winner (of the PIF) pass the goods to someone else if he/she doesn't end up liking it. But I never police them.

It's a free item. It's the acronym from Pay It Forward.

How it works is up to the PIFer. It can be the first person to express an interest gets it, a list can be made and a random number generator picks the winner, the funniest joke wins it, however the PIFer wants to set it up. Also conditions can be set, only domestic postage, people with blue eyes, whatever.
