I started collecting fragrances when I was very young.

At first to get the girls attention in school.

But I soon found out I was addicted to fragrances, mostly mens fragrances - not so much the fragrances marketed for women.

My big brother would rock these classic scents and I loved smelling them in his room at our parents house.

He wore Lagerfeld Classic and Azzaro Pour Homme like crazy back in the early 1980’s.

I bought my first bottle of fragrance when I was 13 years old. It was Cacharel Pour Homme.
I loved this scent to death.

I then bought Azzaro Pour Homme, Lagerfeld Classic, Burberry for men (not the same fragrance today), Dior Eau Sauvage, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui, Sergio Tacchini Uomo and several others.

As a 13 year old I had a collection of 25-30 fragrances.

The fragrance I wish was still in production today and a fragrance I miss very much is Davidoff For Men.
It was a green liquid in a bottle with a grey plastic top.

It’s a tobacco Chypre fragrance and I bought several bottles of this in the mid 1980’s.
I’ve looked for a clone of this for 15 years, but never succeeded in finding one.

It has a 12-15 hour longevity on me, projected very well and left this vibrating silver like scent cloud around me when I wore it.

It’s still one of my all time favourite fragrances - and I believe I have owned more than 2000 different fragrances in my lifetime by now.

What fragrance do you miss and wish was still being made today ?

Rive Gauche. Ebay is a rip off though you can find one or two here and there.

I was fortunate enough to find a bottle several years ago.  I agree it's a wonderful scent.

Hi Jags,

I forgot about Rive Gauche and I agree it’s a fantastic fragrance.

Reason I don’t miss it is because I still have an 125 ml can of it in my collection. It’s from 2011/2012.

I’m envious of you guys. I was never exposed to great fragrance as a young guy so I never really cared for fragrances until much later in life. It’s sad really, all those scentless years. I’m trying to make up for it but it can be overwhelming. And I need a Time Machine. I keep hearing that this or that fragrance was much better X years ago or is no longer made.

Hawaiian Surf Cologne and Aftershave (Circa 1964 - 1972). Is was a very successful tropical lime scent. IMHO, better than both Royall Lyme and St Johns West Indian Lime.
Maybe Stirling, Phoenix or Ethos can reproduce a fragrance clone as a future project someday. Bottles have sold from $200 to $400 on Ebay. I still have 1/2 bottle from 1966 time frame. I use it once a year.

I received most of a bottle of Chatillon Lux "Pure Lavender" aftershave in a PIF a few years ago. To me it smells more like chamomile, which I like far better than lavender.

It triggers childhood memories of playing with my cousins in my grandfather's hay barn.
