Trying out a decant.  I love the opening, which is citrus, specifically pomelo, and slightly sharp and maybe a bit salty.  After the lovely pomelo opening and  about 40-60 minutes it dries down to pleasant quality of freshness and saltiness of some citrus over an increasing tonka base.  Then, after maybe another 30-40 minutes the finish becomes less interesting:  tonka and vanilla, primarily, almost an amber quality, that seems to me somewhat dull.  So, altogether a bit torn, as I really like the opening but that gets lost and it becomes (to me) uninteresting.  Since this is expensive juice, it's not really purchase worth enough for me just to get 40 good minutes.  I might get another decant and try it during the summer and see if my views change.
Nice review, thanks. Sounds like it lived up to it's name Big Grin

Good, relevant line of thought, seems to me.

Yes: we can easily become infatuated with the ephemeral, can't we.  It's kind of a recipe, isn't it, for dissatisfaction.  In terms of perfumery, you may have a set of solutions, and the 40-minute window hints at one or more of them.

Are there any fragrances which seem to defy physics by capturing those bright, small, volatile molecules, pulling them deeper through the life of the scent?   Vetiver Guerlain seems to do that, in my experience, keeping bergamot and/or lemon-like character across the hours.  Maybe there are others.

Are there moderate-priced fragrances with appealing, bright tops and that you wouldn't mind toting around to renew?  (I just did this with New West, though I'd say it's more conifer than citrus.)

Are there fragrances with bases we find adequately engaging, interesting, rewarding?  Aligning desires with reality is a challenge . . . for me, at least.

The Quest goes on.

I finally gave in and picked up this 50ml bottle of Spicebomb Extreme. Still waiting for a few more cool weather decants to arrive before deciding on another bottle or two. Gucci Intense Oud seems to be the next likely purchase.
